Srinagar, June 24: The Opposition People’s Democratic Party president and Member of Parliament (MP) Mehbooba Mufti today condemned the killing of Sopore youth and expressed concern over the reports of educated youth joining militant ranks.

Mehbooba while addressing a press conference here today said that troops should exercise restraint and avoid civilian killings. “You know people get emotional after encounters and I think police and security forces should have shown restraint but they didn't and ultimately it resulted in the killing of youth and injuries to many.”

The PDP president slammed the Government for not acting against those involved in the killing of civilians. “I think with each passing day right from 2009, whether it is Shopian episode or the killing of 120 youth in 2010, there is no time when innocent killings doesn’t occur and it is a routine matter to order probes,” adding “enquires have been there in number of cases but no action was taken.”

Mehbooba expressed her concern over the reports of educated youth joining militancy. “It is due to failure of political process and atrocities”, she added. She expressed concern over possible spill over of militants from Afghanistan after withdrawal of US and NATO forces and the prevailing situation in Pakistan and Iraq, where militants are gaining ground with each passing day.

The PDP president said the Government is turning Jammu and Kashmir a breeding ground due to policies which it has adopted for last few years. “Everybody knows what is happening in Iraq and Afghanistan and besides there is a general concern that what would be its effect on the State”, he said.

She said that security forces excesses are pushing youth towards militancy. “I think yesterday’s incident and the Tral incident where a militant’s mother came on record saying her son was forced to pick up gun because of atrocities is a cause of concern”, she added. Mehbooba appealed Central Government to look into the matter of educated youth joining militancy.

“Union Government should take it as national challenge. If Kashmir issue can be discussed in United Nations or OIC, why not in Indian Parliament, she added. She appealed State Government to ensure the supply of ration, water and electricity in the upcoming Islamic month of Ramazan. She said people are facing enormous difficulties due their shortage. She also appealed Government to make sure that the passports of youth, whose relatives were associated with militancy, should be cleared.

Same difficult situation the people have to deal with in Gaza. The lack of water is a lot more than people think. I've experienced it myself. This is a policy which seeks to keep the area on the verge of collapse so as to not allow it to prosper. Prospering would change the status quo and the people of Kashmir would take measures to declare independence.

Politicians will always politicians. As a state of India ,Jammu &Kashmir citizens desreves same punishments that of the maoists when they took up arm against our nation.
It is their choice whether they join to the militancy or not.But
if they take up arm against our nation then they will meet the same fate of other insurgents like maoists in India.
Noone in this world cant challenge our might. Not anymore

You display idiocy.

The state of Jammu and Kashmir has local Government. They have their own Chief Minister elected by their own people, their own police, their own taxes.

Prosperity or poverty of any state in India is because of their local Governments competency. That is the reason in India, some states are prosperous, some are poor.

With the blatant atrocities and barbarism going on in Indian occupied Kashmir, this was to be expected. Let's see what Mr.Modi does!!
He wont do anything different. If anyone picks up arms against the Indian state, he or she will be shot and dealt using extreme prejudice.

And if anyone thinks that he or she can talk secession and get away with it, they are likely to be proven wrong...and with tragic consequences for them.

Thats just a political statement while fact is that Kashmiri youth are joining army and police in thousands every year while only handful of them are joining militants more like in 10s(lowest recruitment in militants wings in decades while highest recruitment in security forces for the same).

Well, the troops stationed are mostly locals there. These scum want to create terrorism in the state and that is why blaming the army is the easiest thing. Mehbooba Mufti, Nabi Azad, the Abdullahs and the Hurriat are simply anti-India vermin. Technically they are not even eligible to be ruling the state. It was because of Nehruvian socialist bullcrap of compromise that they are able to form dynasties like gandhi parivar and rule the state like landlords.

They will eventually vanish like others did.

.

So what? They're not independent. In the West Bank there is also a PA authority that governs certain areas, yet the whole West Bank remains occupied by Israel. Which controls sovereignty, transfers, imports and exports, etc...

In Kashmir the economy is pretty much surviving on local self sustainable local businesses. Pretty much similar situations where you loot their resources and then make them pay for it.

If you think allowing them to govern themselves translates into being independent then think again. We all know what occurred in 2010.

Yeah right. You really haven't seen the 90s here. It was the what triggered the army. Throughout the 40s-80s, it was so safe and liberal there. Every movie in our film industry was shot there, tourism was at peak, people were prosperous and happy until Pakistan started jihad and send radicals in J&K to kill non-muslim kashmiris for years. That changed everything.

I don't expect you to understand since you are also from a separatist entity called palestine (PLO).

This is a province of our country and we don't tolerate terrorism. Any attempts will simply result in being crushed to extinction.

Unlike middle east, J&K is not a muslim country. It is a part of India which has been turned islamic due to our negligence with lot of bloodshed.

I like that fear you have of Modi.

He is not doing anything, invited your leader to start friendship, and yet you fear him.... good. That fear is necessary.

Well the news for you is that he is grooming hundreds of people like himself. The era of jihad is over and it is best that you leave that and come forth as a friend forgetting old enmity.

Um..no.
It seems then you have no idea how states are run in India. They run their business, export products, import products, private sector all.
J&K have the same exact autonomy that every other State of India has. No special rules are made.

They are as independent as the Constitution of India mandates. Not more, not less.
And yes, any who think that being Muslim gives them special privileges to ask for secession...are going to be given special treatment.

This is an interesting phenomenon isnt it. There is a very tangible fear or apprehension of Modi in Pakistan. I like it.
The bolded part is true. India will no longer be as pacifist as it used to be. We are changing.

Election time !

Every politician shall now try every trick in the book to garner support.

For Hindus, between 1975-1977 India took a path that angered minorities and it reached Kashmir. You could also say they practiced minority apartheid. You lay the onus on Pakistan when the majority has called for independence for decades before the wider conflict erupted in the 90's.

I don't expect you to understand since you are also from a separatist entity called palestine (PLO).

We are not separatist but original inhabitants. ;)
