Indian peace and friendship flotilla have docked at Iran’s First Naval Zone, Rear Admiral Hossein Azad said Tuesday.

Rear Admiral Hossein Azad, Commander of the First Naval Zone, with HQ at the Persian Gulf port of Bandar Abbas, told reporters on Tuesday that Ganga (F22) and Trikand (F51), two frigates of the Indian Navy, will be present at the port city of Bandar Abbas for four days in line with promoting and maintaining the level of regional cooperation between the two countries.

“The presence of naval units of other countries, particularly the regional ones, in Iran pursue the aim of delivering the message of peace and security on seas, as well as expanding military and friendship cooperation in the region,” he said.

Rear Admiral Azad went on to add, “the presence of cross-regional forces, however, are certainly not in the interests of regional countries, and we believe that the interactions among regional countries in the areas of politics, economy and military, will promote peace and security in high seas.”

According to him, the most important programs scheduled for the Indian flotilla while docking at Port of Bandar Abbas include a joint naval exercise aiming at exchange of military information and sea experiences, meetings with senior officials of the province, visiting the religious and tourist attraction sites, as well as participating in sports and cultural competitions with staff of Iranian Navy.

This is the second Indian flotilla that has docked at Iran’s First Naval Zone in the past year.
