Indian ethnic cleansing of Bengali speaking Muslims

This EastWatch clearly forgets that those naked his hindus were none other than own ancestors and the "Bengali language" he proudly speaks that made the ground for the creation of nation "Banladesh", an entity so many of his brethren fought for with blood and sweat,is also a hindu langugae, infact a clear derivative of Sanskrit with hardly any muslim/Arabic influence.

why u always drag religion into the debate??
Have u ever seen indian members castigate islam to make thier point?

Buddy, may I request we keep The Bangla language out of the controversy? Bangla is a great and sacrosanct language to which no one can claim a lien. It does not belong to any religion. If Rabindranath Tagore and Bankim Chandra did a lot for Bangla, so did Kaji Nazrul Islam. They were all Bengalis. Regards.

Border of Bengal and Bangladesh - A Killing Zone

Fortress India is building a new fence along the Bangladeshi border and over a thousand miles have been completed so far.

The project, which began in 2000, is inspired by Israel’s wall in the West Bank, and since the killing of over 170 people by Islamist militants in Mumbai last November, construction is accelerating.

80,000 Indian soldiers of the Border Security Force, or BSF, are standing guard along the border with Muslim Bangladesh; and when it is finished, the fence will be as long as America's 2,000-mile border with Mexico.

Yet although the fencing isnt due to be finished till next year, it can
already claim to have created one of the most dangerous frontiers in the world, because you can be shot for crossing it or even going near it.

Many of those confronting death are like the Bangladeshi family Channel 4 News found walking towards the fence along with their seven-year-old daughter. They were searching for a route out of poverty to the booming powerhouse of India beyond.

They stopped at a railway line with the fence clearly visible, only 150 yards ahead of them. But the smuggler accompanying them warned that they were on the edge of a “no mans land” - Indian territory where anyone could be shot. So they
waited for nightfall before risking the desperate scramble across.

Travel by motorbike into the remote Bangladeshi border villages and you find that it’s not just economic migrants risking death.

In the three villages our team visited, locals queued up with photographs of their relatives to show our camera just how many farmers and herdsmen had been shot. More than 60 dead so far this year and others scarred by bullets. Scores of villagers desperate to tell us they’d either been injured themselves or lost relatives to Indian border patrols.
Some of those shot are undoubtedly Bangladeshi cattle rustlers. Bangladeshis need to import Indian cows because they doesn’t have enough cattle or grazing land of their own. Much of Bangladesh is below sea level, after all, while the Hindus of neighbouring India, who don’t eat meat, have lots of spare cattle to sell.

Yet the fence and the guards along it are making it deadly for cattle rustlers to bring their livestock across.

It makes you wonder what will happen if climate change plunges more of Bangladesh below water; for if the country is encircled by Indian watchtowers and searchlights - and that is the plan - then mass economic migration by Bangladeshis may prove well nigh impossible. And that, of course, may be the point.

“If any goats or cattle go to the fence, if anyone goes near the fence, we can be shot,” one villager told us. “Without doing anything wrong we can still be shot.”

At a Bangladeshi morgue, Channel 4 News filmed stacks of death certificates of those killed by Indian soldiers. The doctors told us the bodies are always handed back to their families. But nobody has even heard of Indian soldiers being prosecuted for any crime.

Our request for an official interview with the Indian Border Security Force was turned down. And that may be because when you travel down the Indian side of the fence, you find that the Indians have killed even more of their own villagers than they have Bangladeshis.

In the village of Baliasisha, local Hindus crowded round us in scenes the mirror image of Muslim villages in Bangladesh; mothers grieving over sons, men mourning their brothers, all shot by Indian patrols.

“My son went to see his land one foggy morning around 4.30am, and that’s when they killed him from behind,” said one man. “Two bullets, one in the back and one in the head. I went to the police but they said they could not register any
case against the border security force. My son was 19 years old. I am crazy for my boy.”

Some 65,000 Indians live in villages in the “no man’s land” beyond the fence.
To get to these villages, they have to be fingerprinted by Indian soldiers in case any Bangladeshi tries sneaking back across. These Indians are nicknamed the “nowhere people”; if they try crossing the fence without permission, or break the nighttime curfew, they could be shot by their own troops.

Faced with this barrage of bullets, it is hardly surprising that the numbers arrested entering India illegally from Bangladesh have halved in the past year.
The Indians say the Mumbai terror attacks have changed the equation, and that anyway soldiers give ample warning before criminals and terrorists are shot.

One night in the Indian border town of Murshidabad our team was told of another shooting. They drove to the hospital with a worried father who’d heard that his son had been shot by the fence.

At the hospital the father couldn’t find his son on the ordinary wards because he was being treated in a locked cell.

“They shot me in the arm and I shouted ‘Don’t kill me!” the boy said. “Now they try and say I am a cattle smuggler. But I don’t even own a cow. I don’t own
anything
!”

The fence is over half-finished now, though 386 “border outposts” aren’t due to be completed till 2014. Last week the Indian officer in charge of guarding the border told the Bangladeshis he had “zero tolerance” for human rights abuses.
Though his troops have reportedly killed another seven people - on both sides - in the last few days.

Hi. I also condemn that. Just seen one thread where Indians are posting about BD army killing some jumma people.

But my understanding after reading is that it was war time in 71 and after besides BD accuse them of recieving arms and weapons from India to use against Bangladeshis. (But yes again the killing is condemnable)

Whereas in this thread its killing in peace time that too in India and Indian BSF mainly killing Bangladeshis.

Hi Jana,
Ever heard of Biharis? If you haven't, try this

Bihari Muslims - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Now many of these die hard Biharis infiltrate from BD to India, cross India and reach the Indo-Pak border with the intention of crossing over to the 'Promised land'. Any idea what happens to them? The men are shot dead by the Rangers while crossing and the women reach the feudal land lords in Punjab subeh and live happily ever after.

Relax.

Ethnic Cleansing in Orissa: India’s Persecuted Christians
by Joseph D'souza 11-20-2008

In India, the world’s largest democracy, millions applauded the recent U.S. elections as a shining example of perhaps the world’s greatest democracy in action. But the plight of Dalit and tribal Christians in Orissa demonstrates disturbing contradictions hidden by democracy in South Asia.

Even as India was admitted to the global nuclear family through the efforts of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Bush, the same ‘modern’ India allowed ethnic cleansing in the last three months. In the eastern state of Orissa, Dalit and tribal Christians were devastated in a violent campaign orchestrated by extremist Hindu groups known as the Sangh Parivar. The Prime Minister said in a meeting with the European Union that Orissa was a “national shame.” But then he said the Orissa violence was sporadic. This is far from the truth.

The displacement and violence against Orissa’s Christians ebbed and flowed for over seven weeks. The murder of a Hindu priest on August 23, 2008, provided the original excuse for retaliatory violence against Christians. Early reports by The Washington Post and others conveyed the unfolding tragedy. Today statistics don’t tell the story anymore: 53,000 homeless and displaced people, 4,640 homes destroyed, more than 60 recorded deaths, rape and abuse of women, at least 150 burned churches, and, as The New York Times documented, forcible conversions to Hinduism. False propaganda combined with state government apathy to produce a human rights tragedy.

The victims are largely the same outcasts of society, the Dalits (formerly known as untouchables), who were hounded and dehumanized as lesser human beings for millennia. At the epicenter of the violence, Kandhamal District, the majority of a tribe called “Pano” have chosen Christianity and slowly improved their standards of living over the past decades. The government had classified these people as Dalits while another tribe, which speaks the same language, was classified as tribals. Allegations that the Dalits are stealing resources from tribals led to sectarian violence. Much of the conflict seems rooted in jealousy of the Dalits who are lifting themselves out of poverty. Regardless, the violence aimed to brutally crush their right to choose their way of life socially and spiritually.

Gujarat seems to be the bastion of violent right wing Hindu groups. Narendra Modi, the sitting Chief Minister of Gujarat, was banned from entering the U.S. because of crimes committed in 2002 against Muslims under his rule. Now there’s a full scale effort to turn Orissa into the next laboratory for the extremist Hindutva groups in north India. In south India the target is the state of Karnataka where over 30 places of worship were desecrated in September.

The demonization and victimization of Muslims groups in Gujarat and other places led to home-grown violent Islamist extremism. In 2008, India has experienced many bombing in major cities and dozens of deaths. In a similar way, young Christian tribals and Dalits could increasingly become a recruiting base for various violent extremist groups. This is because the Indian Church does not engage in violent reaction against the hardliner Hindu groups and, in many places, is too small and weak to respond even if it wanted to. When Christians see that the government and police won’t defend them, their disillusionment could eventually cause them to join Maoist guerillas rampant in the interior of India. This would be a preventable tragedy.

The blame for the rise in violence and communal tension lies with the political class which has run India’s parliament for the past 60 years. They practiced divisive politics and polarized large sections of society. They don’t have an agenda of justice, reconciliation, and freedom. Some in the ruling Indian National Congress Party practice what is called “soft Hindutva” while the main opposition party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, openly supports “hard Hindutva.” Both versions of Hindu ideology are blatantly extremist and take away the rights of Dalit and minorities in an effort to make India into a Hindu nation. This month India has been rocked by revelations that Hindutva adherents had organized terrorist bomb blasts in late September. The rise of violent extremist Hindu groups cannot be ignored by the watching world.

Also, the criminal justice system does not work for the poor and marginalized — those with money and power get away, literally, with murder. Cases languish for years in crowded court rooms piled high with paper records. An outdated law states that the police and security forces in a state serve the government and not “the laws of the land.” The police in Orissa and Karnataka silently watched or even abused Christians in the midst of the mob violence and carnage.

If there is not decisive action to end premeditated violence against Christians, it will result in Indian Christians being driven into their own partitioned space, metaphorically speaking. This will be destructive to the world’s largest democracy since India -– whether she realizes it or not -– cannot do without the Christian minority. Christianity has lived in India for nearly 2,000 years, and followers of Jesus contributed immensely to the national life and development.

Indian Christians stand ready to help our beloved country take its rightful place in the comity of nations. But we are crying out for the rule of law and an end to ethnic cleansing. Is this too much to ask? We can only hope and pray that the newly elected leader of the world’s model democracy — and its generous citizens — speak out against oppression during a season which celebrates the coming of the Prince of Peace.

Hindu State: Purging Christians from Orissa

By George Thomas
CBN News Sr. Reporter Monday, December 29, 2008RSSPodcasts

BHUBANESHWAR, Orissa - In this remote eastern region of India, Hindu radicals are accused of a deliberate and systematic campaign to eradicate Christians from the land.

"Every single Christian denomination has been attacked, our schools, our colleges, our orphanages. Everything that Christians own --Christian homes, Christian institutions, Christian churches-- have been attacked," said Dr. Richard Howell of the Evangelical Fellowship of India. "The idea is to eliminate Christians from Orissa."

For more than a month now, Orissa has witnessed some of the worst persecution against Christians ever in India's history.

Violence began a month ago when a Hindu leader was murdered here. Hindu fanatic groups held Christians responsible for it and went on the rampage.

Some 4,000 Christian homes and 400 churches were destroyed. Events in Orissa triggered violence against Christians in a number of other states.

At the root of the conflict say Christian leaders are efforts by Hindu radicals to stop lower-caste Hindus known as Untouchables or Dalits from converting to Christianity.

"The Hindu mob wanted us to convert back to Hinduism," Juliam Nayak, an Orissa resident, remembered. "They told us that if we became a Hindu and rejected Christianity we could stay, otherwise they would burn our homes and we would have to leave the village."

Dalits makeup one-fifth of India's one billion plus population. They live on the margins of society, and are often considered by Hindus as less than human. Christian groups say lower-caste Hindus convert willingly to escape the 3000 years of discrimination under the caste system.

"So when we talk about what is happening in the Dalit community, it's a freedom movement, and what happens in a freedom movement? They are seeking any one way which will make them free. Christianity offers them one way," human rights advocate, Dr. John Dayal, explained.

And the numbers have been especially dramatic in Orissa where Christians now makeup some 27 percent of the population.

"The Hindu gods did nothing for me, they didn't bring me any peace. They could not answer my problems but in Christianity I found true peace and freedom from the Hindu caste system," Kumar Naikd said. He is a Dalit convert.

But some Hindus have accused Christians of converting Dalits against their will.

"They use bribery and money to trick Dalits into becoming Christians. Conversions and Christian missionaries are a threat to India," Prakash Sharma said.

Sharma is one of key leaders in Bajrang Dal, an influential extremist Hindu group that's suspected of spearheading the attacks against Christians.

"My message to Christians in India is stop your conversions," he added. "The violence in Orissa is a reaction by Hindus to these conversions."

CBN News met survivors of the Orissa attacks who described Christians being forcibly converted to Hinduism under the threat of death.

"We saw 14 to 15 families being forced to drink cow urine as part of the conversion ceremony to purify their sins and then they had to sign a letter saying that they had become Hindus and would obey orders to attack Christians," Kandhamal resident, Vinod Nayak, said.

The violence has left more than 50,000 Christians displaced. Most of them are crammed into relief camps like this one. Thousands are said to be missing or hiding in jungles.

And the situation for these Christians isn't getting much easier. There are reports that the Hindu radicals have made threats against them saying that if they intend on coming back to their destroyed villages, they must renounce Christ.

"We will never do that. We may have lost everything but we will never turn our backs on Christ. I still have joy and I am thanking God despite my circumstances," said Nirmala Nayak, who survived a Hindu attack

The Indian government is facing growing international criticism for failing to stamp out the violence. The government has deployed several hundred more police to the region. Some are also calling on the government to ban groups like the Bajrang Dal and other extremist Hindu outfits that promote violence and religious intolerance.

More than a month after the attacks began, some Christians are slowly finding the courage to come out from hiding in the jungles and are walking to the nearest refugee camp--- uncertain about their future but hopeful they can one day go back home.

"Please pray for us that we go back to our destroyed homes," an Orissa survivor began. "Rebuild them and be a stronger witness for God among the non-Christians of our village."

Orissa, acquitted for lack of evidence one of the brains behind anti-Christian pogrom
by Nirmala Carvalho

Charges of arson against Manoj Pradhan, one of 14 charges against him, are dropped. BJP leader and elected to the legislature of Orissa, he is accused of killing 7 Christians. Activists denounce the inaction of the administration in punishing those responsible for crimes.

Kandhamal (AsiaNews) - Manoj Pradhan was acquitted of arson, in one of the 14 charges against pending against him. He is one of the brains of the pogrom against Christians in Orissa, a local court has acquitted him for "lack of evidence." The Court's decision casts Christian activists into confusion, who report yet another case of government "inertia" in "punishing those responsible" for violence.

Manoj Pradhan, an right-wing activist belonging to the Hindu nationalist movement Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and recently elected to the Legislative Assembly of Orissa, is accused of 14 instances of violence, including 7 murders of Christians. One concerns an arson attack on the village of Pisamaha, August 27, 2008, in which many homes of Christian families were destroyed. Gutia Digal, a resident of the village, lodged a complaint against Pradhan; in the trial initiated against him, the court decided to acquit because the evidence "is insufficient to issue a verdict."

Harsh reaction from Sajan K George, president of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC), who speaks of "inertia of the administration in seeing justice done for the atrocities committed against Christians." He denounces the "free hand enjoyed by the Sangh Parivar, the Hindu nationalist movement," in attacking and killing Christians, burning and destroying houses and property in Kandhamal, where many of the guilty "still roam freely and unpunished”.

The GCIC once again calls for "justice" and "measures" against those who want to "intimidate the Christians who testify" in the trails surrounding events in Orissa. "The state is failing - adds Sajan K George - in the primary task of using his power to ensure security and justice ... The GCIC has a list of 123 people killed (the total number of deaths exceeds 500, note) during anti-violence -Christian".

The Christian activist, finally, points also denounces "inadequate compensation" and "massive delays" in compensation for victims of violence, along with possible "cases of corruption by officials" of state government.

well...the Indo-BD border is very messy...I have worked with an NGO and have been there some time back...there are houses situated right on the border...i mean right in the buffer zone...people in Bengal(both ours and theirs)are very very poor...and can't afford to move from the no-man's land.Contrary to the reports of BSF being harsh and all...these people have a tall order to follow...the no. of people crossing over illegally is unimaginable...they arrest in hordes...
in short the Indo-BD border is like a border in the middle of a farm...mutually owned by the two demarcated sides...

.
It seems you are drinking too much of desi daru that made from Piss.
Be happy all you want about la-hasina and her dalal bahini being in power but at the end, you bharati need ot keep this hard truth in your hindu mind that it's your wet dream to make us your satellite state as long as bangladeshi like us around. Overwhelm majority or not, awami munafiq has no root in bd. Just watch and see how things fold out in future.

If la-hasina follow her father path than history is known to all of us.....:smokin:

You hate your govt....you have no respect for your fellow hindu countrymen..and you want to fight your neighbor just because it encompasses your country...you are not a Bengali are you?
