Indian Cop Causes Accident, Then Beats Victim

.
This happens everywhere. Used to happen even when MH had a BJP govt.
The problem is with the British-era style of governance which involves treating your own citizens like $hit.

When the govt. of the day starts using the police to conduct a witch hunt and harass a powerful Media figure and send a message that they and their machinery is untouchable, then it is only natural for the police to start treating the "aam admi" like worms.

Contrast this with the police in UP which used to be Notorious just a few year back , Every-time such police high handedness on the common man is reported, Immediate action is taken by the administration. Cops are either suspended or dismissed, Usually both.

End of the day its for the Govt. to send a message to the police on how it can treats the citizens. No point in blaming the "british" for this.

Two points:
1. What you mentioned are mere ebbs and flows in an already outdated system of policing.
2. The whole point of invoking the British era was to show how, despite the British leaving us to our designs eons ago, subsequent governments didn't relinquish the inherited draconian means.

You are missing the Forest for the Trees.

The real problem is with the compromised and lethargic and uncaring Judiciary that gives too hoots for Individual liberty and rights.

For the limited resources they have, Policing in India is outstanding.

Are you saying that the fault has been isolated with the judiciary and that the legislation and governance/policing are alright?
Is there a metric that you are using to come to your conclusion about Indian policing?
Here's a study from the IPSA that shows Indian policing to be worse than the policing standards of many African nations as well:

Here's how they define their assessment index:

Tell me how they are wrong in their assessment and you are right?

Based on my preliminary glance of the report, it is divided into 3 parts.

1. Capacity
2. Process
3. Legitimacy
4. Outcomes

We have 144 police officers for every 100,000 citizens.

UN recommended ration is 222.

now see this in the context of Naxal killings, North east unrest, Terrorism from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and then VIP duties which consumes significant resource and Finally Criminalization of politics due to Judicial incompetence.

Yet most crimes get solved in India though Judiciary may set them free.

Police reforms are needed, but only after JUDICIAL REFORMS which is the crying NEED of the hour.

Police is the most visible target for people's ire while in reality they are victims of the system that turn them into monsters by either overworking them, underpaying them, denying them resources, life or lifestyle and scrape goat for every failure by the administration.
