A baseless report by a pseudo journalist who doesn't bother to check the ground reality.
PMSA Unit was operating inside Pakistan's AoR & rescued the damaged boat which was tilted to one side due to some technical fault.
Indian boat crew was also rescued by PMSA & was handed over to ICG unit.
Interesting fact - Indian Coast Guard, after repeated requests by Pakistani authorities, received the Indian National fishermen.

Lesson, you can't hide the facts Sidhant.

A tragic incident off the coast of Mumbai has resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals, including three naval personnel, after an Indian Navy speedboat collided with a passenger ferry. The accident occurred during engine trials on December 18, 2024, near Butcher Island while the ferry, named Neel Kamal, was transporting tourists to the Elephanta Caves.

Key Details of the Incident

  1. Accident Overview:
    • The collision happened around 3:55 PM when the speedboat lost control due to an apparent engine malfunction and struck the ferry, causing it to capsize. The ferry was carrying over 100 passengers, including families and children.
  2. Casualties and Rescue Operations:
    • Among the deceased, ten were civilians and three were naval personnel. A swift rescue operation was launched by the Indian Coast Guard and Navy, involving 11 vessels and four helicopters, which successfully rescued over 100 passengers, although several individuals remain hospitalized with serious injuries.
  3. Eyewitness Accounts and Video Footage:
    • Eyewitnesses reported seeing the speedboat making a sharp turn before crashing into the ferry. Video footage of the incident circulated online, showing moments leading up to the collision.
  4. Investigations Launched:
    • Both the Indian Navy and local authorities have initiated separate investigations into the accident to determine the exact cause and whether negligence contributed to the tragedy. An FIR has been filed against the driver of the speedboat under various charges related to negligence and reckless navigation.
  5. Government Response:
    • Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹500,000 (approximately $6,000) for the families of those who lost their lives, along with additional compensation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's relief fund for both victims' families and those injured.
  6. Context of Safety Concerns:
    • This incident raises concerns about safety protocols within the Indian Navy, particularly following a similar accident involving another naval vessel earlier in November 2024. Critics have pointed to a need for improved training and operational standards to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Conclusion

The collision between the Indian Navy speedboat and the passenger ferry highlights critical issues regarding maritime safety and operational oversight within naval operations. As investigations proceed, there is a pressing need for accountability and measures to ensure that such incidents do not recur, prioritizing the safety of both military personnel and civilians alike.
