Nope Sir.What I wanted to show (as you claimed) that even the Indian Independence act 1947 does not consider India as an exclusively Hindu state (irrespective of whatever reason behind the creation of the state of Pakistan might be) , neither it instructs its refugee policy on religious grounds. The foreigner's act still holds the ground with a number of amendments after 1947.

Not a good decision IMO. Nothing against hindus and sikhs from across the border but with a country of 1.2 billion people already suffering from poor distribution of resources we could have used a little restraint. I think the best way would have been to let them seek asylum like any other nation would do and grant them citizenships on a per case basis.

Nope Sir.What I wanted to show (as you claimed) that even the Indian Independence act 1947 does not consider India as an exclusively Hindu state (irrespective of whatever reason behind the creation of the state of Pakistan might be) , neither it instructs its refugee policy on religious grounds. The foreigner's act still holds the ground with a number of amendments after 1947.

Even today no one is claiming India to be an "exclusive" Hindu state. Only a state that needs to protect Hindus and Sikhs and offer them refuge and political space.

It is the defacto homeland of the Hindus & sikhs and there is no changing that. (irrespective of whatever the constitution may or may not say). Historically it has a responsibility towards Hindus from Pakistan and B'Dsh and must give them special status over and above any normal refugee like Tibetans or Burmese.

Yes, this should be a concern in every case. Again it's nothing against the people, but there is a hindi saying - "Pao utna pasariye, jitni lambi saur". I am not against giving them citizenship but I am against giving them special treatment than people from other communities or countries.

Quoting the facts should not be considered as obsession with secularism. By your logic it was Ambedkar who is to be blamed for preparing the ground for "halal lungi brothers", not me. Isn't it?

LOL!If by Ambedkar you are referring to the constitution.The constitution of India is for Indian citizens and when did Ambedkar prepared groundwork for the lungiwalas.

NEW DELHI: The Centre has set up a task force to expedite pending citizenship requests from nearly one lakh Hindu and Sikh refugees from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

This will cut down the time needed for the process from several years to two months and help the people, many of whom were driven from their homes and financially in dire straits.

The task force will start functioning within two weeks, said a communique from the home ministry.

The move is in line with Prime Minister's Narendra Modi's promise to treat refugees on par with Indian citizens during election rallies in West Bengal.

There are about 400 Pakistani Hindu refugee settlements in cities like Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Jaipur. Most Hindu refugees from Bangladesh live in West Bengal and north-eastern states.

Currently, Hindus and Sikhs from the two neighbouring countries get short-term visa. Those seeking citizenship will have to provide complete documentation. In absence of that, they will be given long-term visas, which can be for 10 to 15 years.

The task force, which will be headed by senior home ministry officials, will coordinate with the state governments to expedite the cases.

And no,unlike your assumption Indian constitution is quite specific about about laws relating foreigners and refugees, so the argument of yours does not make any sense at all.

Because it negates the concept of Pakistan. People go to west because of higher living standard not because they hate their motherland. If tomorrow Indians start moving to Pakistan, many in India will loose confidence in Indian society. I guess you are right, Pakistanis have never been confident about their society and government, that is why there are protests on the streets on Islamabad.
