Indian Brigadier Demanded $ 5 million Bribe

NEW DELHI: The documents filed in an Italian court also contain details of a $5 million bribe demanded by a Brigadier for influencing another helicopter purchase by the Army.


However, there is no evidence that corroborates Brig Saini was paid the sum he had demanded. According to the document recovered by Italian investigators from the residence of mother of Guido Haschke, one of the key middlemen in the controversial VVIP helicopter deal, Brig Saini had offered to fix the trials of 197 light utility helicopters for the Army in AgustaWestland's favour.

The investigators have also intercepted a conversation involving former CEO of Finmeccanica, Giuseppe Orsi, who is presently lodged in an Italian jail, in which he says, "They are talking about the Indian general? ****, are they talking about the 0.5%?"

Yes, it was revieled earlier itself that the Brigadier asked for 5 million to change the specification so that AW can win the tender.. Anyway it is very unfortunate that the order is going to be cancelled.. God know how many more will get cancelled..

Its good that the orders are cancelled, this tender was ill perceived.. How many VIP's go to such height and how many times?

Then again I feel it is fortunate that at least things come out one way or the other, not like before where any tom and dick would expect kick backs for a defence deal and inoccents like Amitabh Buchan are accused to cover up some *****...
