i heard on this forum , there is a census going on in bangaldesh but european union financing it.


they can not even finance this. shame being a small country bangladesh get large aid, they get export quota. they get credits.

we all are credit taking, aid taking countries aren't we ? then why make cheap shots at others with out any provocation ?

Well, the 1billion dollar is a peanut but there are many attached conditions with the loan which is a bit worrisome. the money could be paid back w.o much hassle but always remember a right once granted can never be taken back.

It is funny how you try to play down the amount by comparing it to your total GDP. 1 billion is a big deal even for India which is 14 times your size. Can you tell me the number of times your country has received grant or aid more than $1 Billion? BTW, I really don't want to know the property price in Dakha or how much you spend on Hilsa fish.

Most people just don't see a need for a loan at this moment. A slight increase in tax for the upper class would equal more than a billion dollar. Once again, its not the loan, its the conditions attached which most people have issues with.

Here the issue is how this $1 billion will be used by Bangladesh. It is true that BD cannot use this money to purchase goods other than Indian oprigin goods. But, some of the projects are really necessary. Think of the diesel locomotoves, passenger and freight coaches. Our technology is so underdeveloped that we cannot even build these goods that were first introduced by the British 200 years ago.

However, if these are used only to move Indian commercial goods from one border in the west to another in the east, only then this arrangement serves purely an Indian interest. In a situation like this, india should finance the development of these railway or road structures, although these are inside BD.

If the situation is different than above, i.e, if it serves only BD interests, then it is BD who should pay for it. Someone can highlight the projects that will be financed with this $1 billion Indian credit.

Even if there are many conditions attached with the credit, we must also understand that locomotives, coaches and steel lines are less expensive India than almost all other countries, albeit, the quality is low. Indian credit is not a DOLLAR credit, it is essentially a Rupee credit. The credit is meant to sell only Indian goods. But, only the GoB can refuse or accept a loan like this after giving due consideration to the pros and cons of the offer.
