Indian AWACS makes first flight

All rules are different for India ? Phalcon when used on Il-76 or gulfstream is Israeli. F--k this, SAAB uses the same aircarft and its called SAAB's EMB-145 ERIEYE but when when india uses it its not Indian....Why ????

Saala similar problem with LCA, no disrespect to anyone but when you guys have the audacity to call a fighter jet yours which is actually built by other country and even the initial prodution started in that country then i think India can very easily call LCA as its own just like Sweden calls Gripen as there's remember they also don't have their own engine or radar or HMDS or weapons.

Don't kick @$$#$. Let them bark about LCA so and so. who cares, Do you ?? ............................congrats to DRDO. :yahoo::cheers:

A historic occasion. It looks awesome with number of systems all over the aircraft, specially the EW. Will post more pics and and technical details later.




The first of three EMB 145I Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft platforms, ordered by the Indian government for IAF, had its successful ‘official’ maiden flight at Embraer’s headquarters, in São José do Campos, today. The flight is said to have performed all planned tests successfully.

The first fully modified Aircraft for indigenously developed Indian Airborne Warning and Control System (AEW&C) aircraft, the EMB-145I took to the skies on 6 December 2011, as part of its first maiden flight at Embraer's facilities at Sao Jose dos Campos in Brazil with about 1000 Mission System Components provided by CABS, DRDO. These include the critical item – AESA (Active Electronic Scanning Antenna) Radar Antenna developed by DRDO and certified from ANAC, International FAR Certification Agency.


“The flight is a major milestone towards realizing the dream of Indigenous Airborne Early Warning and Control System, which will put India into a Select Club of Countries” said SA to RM congratulating DRDO Scientists and M/s Embraer Engineers on this achievement.


While this Aircraft will now undergo full certification process over next two year period, India will receive two aircrafts by middle of next year. Here, the Mission Systems developed by Various DRDO Labs will be integrated with these aircrafts. Currently , these systems are undergoing ground integration and evaluation at CABS (Centre for Airborne Systems), Bangalore.

NEW DELHI (PTI): The DRDO has conducted the maiden flight of Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system at a special facility in Brazil, taking a major step forward in the development of such system indigenously.

The first maiden flight of indigenously developed AEW&C took place Wednesday at Sao Jose dos Campos in Brazil with about 1000 mission system components provided by Bangalore- based DRDO lab, the Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS), a DRDO spokesperson said here.

"The flight is a major milestone towards realising the dream of indigenous Airborne Early Warning and Control system, which will put India into a select club of countries," DRDO chief said.

The aircraft will now undergo full certification process over next two years, but first two aircraft will be delivered to us by the middle of 2012, the spokesperson said.

"After the aircraft are delivered, the mission systems developed by various DRDO labs will be integrated into them.

Currently these systems are undergoing ground integration and evaluation at CABS
," he said.

The delivery of these aircraft with fully integrated mission control system is expected to take place by the end of 2013, he said.

The systems developed by DRDO are being integrated on specially designed Embraer aircraft with capability of tracking airborne objects in all directions.

Forgive me for sounding dumb , but can anyone advise what is the main difference/advantage or disadvantage of the rectangular attachment on top of the AWACS like Indian AWACS and SAAB as compared to the circular one like that of E3-Sentry

^^I may be waaaaaaay off but I think that the dimension of the carrier platform is the deciding factor.
The A50 is huge when compared to the modded Embraer.
