Indian Army set to place order for 248 more arjun main battle tanks

friend seeing army's behavior i doubt that more than 400 arjuns will be inducted. but if 700 or 1000 arjuns will be inducted, do you think i won't be happy?

Here I would like to say something.Now I don't have a inside info about the numbers of Arjuns to be inducted.But the numbers can be estimated.
Actualy IA has ordered 248 mk1s ,not 124.If you remember the additional 124 tanks were ordered right after the comparative trials when mk2 was not finalised and even Dr.VK Saraswat had told that these tanks will not come with missile firing capability.Later IA ordered 124 mk2.
Now coming to numbers.IA still has some 800 T55s and Vijayantas in service and last year A.K.Antony had told in parliament that IA would replace these tanks with Arjuns.So 800 Arjuns are almost sure.
Now coming to FMBT.The induction date of FMBT is set to 2025 and Arjun mk2 will be inducted from 2013 onwards.So there will be a time gap of more tham a decade and in this time more Arjuns have to be produced in order to keep the HVF Avadi facility running,otherways it will have to be shut down.So by current rate of 60 Aruns/year there should be atleast 700 Arjun mk2s by 2025.

if the MK2 are successful in trials the IA will order more than 248 i hope IA orders at least 1,000 MK2

What I love in the upcoming Arjun mk2 is its new armor.It will be fitted with a tungsten carbide face hardening plate and impenetrable to even 120 mm DU rounds from close range.
Besides the new FSAPDS T rounds will be much better that the formidable mk1 rounds.

My source is my dad who is working in the PXE Balasose as a mechanical engineer for over 2 and 1/2 decades now,where the kanchan armor and the 120 mm rounds has been tested for long.
Regarding the new rounds,it is from DRDO journal.There was a thread by ganimi kawa where he posted the article.There V.K.Saraswat told that 20 new generation mk2 FSAPDS T rounds developed by ARDE had been sent to PXE for testing.

There are currently ~800 T55s and Vijayantas in IA.So over these 500 Arjuns(mk1+mk2) there should be another order for 300-400 Arjun mk2 to replace all of them.You can take a look at the post 18 and express your views.

The total order as of now is for 248 mk1(124 already delivered) and according to some 124 mk2 have also been ordered.So if this 248 mk2s are ordered the total number will be 248 Arjun mk1 and 372 Arjun mk2.The orders for mk2 are not from official sources,so not sure about the credibility.
