Indian army running short of ammunition

As for the comments by the army chief, it's difficult to imagine that one of the largest fighting forces on the planet runs operates with reserves for only two days. I'm guessing that his comments with respect to ammo of a certain specification was confused as the status quo of "ammunition" at large. Just a guess, though.

But, if the ammo is genuinely so low, perhaps, the govt would need to urgently revisit its recent decision on blacklist some defence suppliers.

Prism - mate just go through the thread you kindly started. I know and you know the reason why you started it and unfortunately it got side tracked. Have a look at how many Indian posts have been deleted and think why they have been removed. Also have a think how many personal attacks they have made. Simply both of us are aware many of your countrymen have taken it to heart and personally.
Have a little think - when they take cheap shots at our nation and of course dont forget which nations site this is, its sometimes disheartning. Without Indian members the spice would be removed - so i love Indians being on our side but jeeeez have some respect and trust me you guys will get double back!

OK Aryan and all others lets think logically:

The statement is that the Army has lack of ammunition for a full scale war against a large army of say 200K+ troops but enough to sustain regular counter insurgency ops in Kashmir and North-East.

Now lets divide the army into its most basic units a battalion of a regiment led by a Col. and other young officers.

Now if the entire Army has lack of ammunition to fight a war then definitely all battalions will have shortages.Also in any well trained,professional battalion the officers are smart enough to see there is stock enough for every eventuality even war.

So one should wonder that are all Colonels,Lt. Cols,Majors in all battalions that ignorant that if the supposed statement be true then they wouldnt complain to higher ups about the ammo issue regularly especially when they know the sensitivity of our borders.

On the issue of commenting on the Army Chief's character I won't comment I am not a soldier hence I haven't earned the right to comment on a Senior Military officials character especially one who did his job well.Lets stick to the topic rather than making assertions about an honorable man.

Well let's call spade a spade...even if he has to use some tactics to get money this reveals that MOD and our forces are not on same page...This to me is a worrying sign...if Army chief has to make these absurd remarks just to get attention then god save us...b/w how come our more than hypersensitive media has not picked up this story and not harp on it till eternity???

What the good general has stated and according to my information - there is a severe lack of artillery ammo - not enough to sustain all guns for more than 2 days, in a full scale conventional engagement, this is a key weakness, there are others - but not willing to reveal on an open forum.

our airforce chief and naval chief said same few time ago.it created a huge hype in media.
