The Cambrian Patrol Team of the Third Battalion, the Ninth Gorkha Rifles (CHINDITS) will be representing Indian Army at Exercise Cambrian Patrol-2013 at Wales, United Kingdom from 15 to 17 Oct 2013. The team has been selected amongst more than 250 teams after an exhaustive process of training and assessment over a period of six months.

Cambrian Patrol is a widely renowned military event conducted by the British Army every year and is held under adverse operational and terrain conditions. Besides the elite units of British Army, 14 teams from national armies of foreign countries also participate in this competition. The aim of Cambrian Patrol is to test the operational capabilities and the ability to operate as a mission oriented tactical team in an adverse environment.

The team is led by a young officer, Capt Amit Dinesh Singh and has ten young and motivated Non Commissioned Officers. The manager, Capt Romen Yumnam expressed confidence that the team will emulate the achievement of 4/9 Gorkha Rifles which had won the Gold Medal in the same competition in the year 2011.

The Vice Chief of Army Staff and President Gorkha Brigade, Lt Gen SK Singh, interacted with the team on 07 Oct 2013 at New Delhi and exhorted them to make the Indian Army and the Nation proud by winning the coveted championship.

Exercise Cambrian Patrol is an annual international military patrolling exercise that makes its participating units cover a 37-mile (60 km) course in less than 48 hrs while performing numerous types of military exercises placed throughout the rugged Cambrian Mountains and swamp lands of mid-Wales.

The competition consists of teams of eight men patrolling and carrying up to 60 Lbs each across some of the most unforgiving terrain. It's a test of leadership, self-discipline, courage, physical endurance and determination. The exercise usually starts with teams arriving at a rendezvous before having their equipment checked to make sure they have everything required. Missing equipment will be replaced by dead weight and will mean points will be deducted. From there the team leader will be taken to orders while the rest of the team set up a quick hide, start their battle prep and prepare to receive orders i.e. prepare a model of the ground which will be covered during the patrol. Many of the units that enter do not even finish. Those that do finish earn one of four distinctions; gold medal, silver medal, bronze medal, or passing.

From official UK site: http://www.army.mod.uk/documents/general/2013DIN07-031.pdf

it says:
1. Cambrian Patrol is the premier patrolling event of the British Army. It is held in Wales
and is organised by HQ 160 (Wales) Bde on behalf of Sp Comd, in accordance with HQ Army,
CLF’s directive. Cambrian Patrol is an exercise and not a competition. It is challenging and
concentrates on leadership, teamwork, physical fitness and achieving a mission. The exercise
is designed to be within the capability of any well-led and well-trained patrol from any Arm or 2
Service and it also draws participants from overseas. Cambrian Patrol is conducted for the
benefit of units and there is no final order of merit and the exercise is the same for Regular and
Reserve Forces patrols.

(emphasis mine)..

It is a competition, army teams from different nations compete in the exercises.

Doesn't matter what they call it, teams are still competing to win, in essence it's a competition. They just don't like to call it one.

Sorry to burst your bubble, no team comes first as per the organizer. I don't know about fanboy prizes though....

@Thirdfront: Good points buddy, but even though they don't call it a Competition, evaluation and medals are given out, effectively making it a competition.
