Indian Army Chief to visit Britain from Feb 13

Looking to strengthen military ties, Army Chief Gen V K Singh will be in Britain on a five-day official visit starting February 13 during which he will tour training establishments and witness a defence exercise.

Singh will hold discussions with senior military leaders about the ways of strengthening defence ties between the two countries, Army officials said here.

He will also call on the British Secretary of Defence and discuss the ways of extending the existing cooperation between the defence forces of the two sides.

He will also meet the British Chief of General Staff Gen Peter Wall.

Singh will visit the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, which was the cradle of Indian army's leadership in the pre-independence era.

The army chief will also interact with the famous Special Forces of Britain during the visit.

After completing his official engagements on February 17, the army chief will return to India on February 20, they said.

The two sides have strong defence cooperation and a British delegation is right now visiting India to hold discussions with the Defence Ministry and the Industry here.

The visiting team today held delegation-level meetings with Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma and discussed the ongoing and future defence cooperation.

A British team led by its Minister for International Security Strategy Gerald Howarth had met Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju on Monday.

OH Yeah Baby!!!The 22nd SAS -the best in the world, would be awesome if it leads to increased co-operation between the SAS and the Para(SF).

As they say "if you are a terrorist organisation dont screw around with the SAS-they'll kill ya"

The SAS have had their day but they are soon going to be rendered irrelevant as with the rest of the British military that is being cut and dismembered leaving it as a shadow of a defence force. The US DEVGRU/Army Compartmented Element (Delta) wins every time against the Brits the technology, experience, doctrine, support elements and training far exceed SAS. Soon Indian SOFs (IA/IAF/IN) will be right up there as they get the kit they deserve, I'd say their training alone puts them in the top 5 SOFs. Good news is Indian SOFs are rapidly getting new kit and in 3-4 years will be unrecognizable.

I understand the budget cuts, the SAS has seen downs with regard to whitehall but still they are considered hands down by man SF personnel in India hands down better than the yanks because tactically they always keep the edge, the SAS always innovates.

Now coming to the SEALs I think in their role they'd beat the SBS.

do read Task Force Black some of the pics in it are awesome weaponry wise the SAS in Iraq were using stuff as good as Delta.

Yes SEALs> then SBS but specifically DEVGRU (ST6) in their role are hands down the best SOF on the planet (maybe shared with ACE of Army). Maybe back in Iraq SAS had similar kit to Delta but these days I'd defenietly say US SOFs had the edge, but of course I haven't seen the pics you refer to.

he is a PARA and he admits US SOFs are on another planet in terms of hardware and even effectiveness. No comment on Indian SOFs, he's had no experience with them but he's heard good things from with in his community.

Delta is amazing but they arent getting much publicity now and they don't want it.

Recently an Ex-Delta commander himself told the USSOCOM chief an ex-DEVGRU that they SEALs are taking too much media attention especially with their missions like the recent Somalia rescue,he raised good points and said its good to shut up like in 2003 when Delta killed Saddams sons and then caught Saddam they handed him to the local US Army commander and kept their mouths shut that they did it.

Plus not to mention Green Berets make a lot of fun of SEALs nowadays especially with the movie act of valor coming up with its hype that it has active duty SEALs.

He is there to give them their "peanuts" back...

Agreed, was just about to post the Lt Gen's comments. But tbf DEVGRU are bound to get attention the 2 ops he mentioned were very high profile (I mean they went into PAKISTAN AND KILLED OBL FFS!) that was bound to get attention. And it's not like the ST6 guys posed for pics with the body, no pics have yet emerged with them in action recently. Kudos for Delta (ACE) though I think there are like 2-3 genuine pics of them on the web.

ACE pics u'll find in the book Kill Bin Laden that too real small pics,DEVGRU too none at all same with the SBS no pics of them at all but one thing I have seen is that post retirement many ex-SF including ACE and DEVGRU come out on TV,write books, with the SAS except for Andy,Chris, eddie stone, john mcaleese and some others none at all. With the Israelis it is even worse except for Amir Perets no one from their two units Sayeret Matkal and Shayetet 13 has come out.

In India the MARCOS win in this no one again ex-MARCOS ever comes in the media.

I'd say that UK/US were about equal in terms of ex-SOFs coming out into public but as US SOFs are FAR larger the "leakage" in UK SOFs is rather shameful.

agreed, MARCOs are a breed apart in terms of commitment to secrecy and anonymity. None in close to 25 years (that's 1000s of ex operators) and NOT A SINGLE one has come out and recounted his experiences- incredible.
