Why did he wait so long to come out with this. He has been the army chief for many years and what did he do about it all this time?
He seems to be a bitter man, since he got embarrassed by himself on the DOB issue and the government did not oblige him with the service extension.

Yeah I agree Pakistan is the perfect country in fact the best in the world with best world military devoid redtapism or corruption. It has strong and visionary civil political leadership committed to public welfare without any scandals or charges.

so we defeated pak in 4 wars without all these things.. imagine your state if we had them ...LOL

.
Fortunately Pakistani condition is almost as bad ... but we need to fill in the gaps ASAP.

While criticizing Pakistani we should not ignore the vital issue. I am afraid our military system is paralyzed with the corruption bug. We should address the issue urgently.

Indian Defination of Running out of arms is different than that of Pakistan

For instance WHEN amount of Tank Ammo falls below 50000 unit , army feels it is running short
Same is in other cases like that of Anti Tank Missiles
We have 50000 Anti Tank Missiles out of which 20000 need to be replaced
By the way , the remaining 30000 Anti Tank Missiles are still 4 times that operated by PA

India will induct some 8335 Spike , 848 Hellfire along with Apaches and upto 2000 AASM Anti Armour Missiles for Rafale , Not to Mention 2000+ Helina to equipe some 74 Rudra ALH and 179 LCH that will be Inducted over next 10-12 yrs

Now Take for instance our Anti Aircraft Guns and Missile arsenal of some 15000 Guns and Missiles
We have inducted 3 sqds of Spyder SAMs and are inducting some 6000 Aakash SAMs , to replace some 7000 older SAMs

The first Aakash Sqd was inducted in IAF in Feb 2012 , another 15 Sqds and 2 Missile Regiments are to be inducted over a period of 6 yrs

NEW DELHI: India's tank fleet lacks ammunition, its air defences are "97 percent obsolete" and its elite forces lack essential arms, the country's army chief wrote in an explosive letter leaked Wednesday.

The letter to the prime minister dated March 12 - widely reported by the Indian media - lists the shortcomings of the armed forces in embarrassing detail in a blow to the government and the Asian giant's military prestige.

Its publication also ups the stakes in a public battle between army chief General V.K. Singh and the government which began with a dispute over Singh's retirement earlier this year.

"The state of the major (fighting) arms i.e. mechanised forces, artillery, air defence, infantry and special forces, as well as the engineers and signals, is indeed alarming," Singh wrote in the letter, DNA newspaper reported.

The army's entire tank fleet is "devoid of critical ammunition to defeat enemy tanks", while the air defence system is "97% obsolete and it doesn't give the deemed confidence to protect... from the air," he wrote.

The infantry is crippled with "deficiencies" and lacks night fighting equipment, while the elite special forces are "woefully short" of "essential weapons".

Singh also told The Hindu newspaper this week that he had informed Defence Minister A.K Antony of a $2.8 million bribe offered to him in 2010, leading to embarrassing questions as to why the government did not order an enquiry.

Antony told parliament on Wednesday that he was aware of the letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and he would reply appropriately. (AFP

Stop sugar coating it. Admit the truth....I know its hard to swallow but pretending this is okay is not the right path. Our special forces lack enough weapons to even practice. Our tank load is considered low for a reason, in case some conflict broke out, we would not be able to keep the pace long

The only SAMs we posses not obsolete are Akash and Spyder,

There were rumors , we purchased S-300Vs

Also our MANPADs are obsolete, need to get some stinger or better ones.

PAKISTAN is afraid of instability? While the rest of the world is hoping that pakistan remains stable enough to at least hold on to its nukes?

And by the way if Indian security is at risk, should that be a worrying thing, or a happy thing for pakistan? If our security is at risk, who do you think it is at risk FROM? Think carefully.

And congrats, you have managed to turn a thread where people are expected to criticise the indian army into one that laughs at pakistan, with your ridiculous post.

hmm its a game to get more funds forom indiantax paying nation thats all a lie

And how did you come to this conclusion? By inspecting and taking stock of all the Indian army's inventories? And then painstakingly comparing that with projected requirements?
