Srinagar: The Fire and Fury Corps of India has built a 260-f00t-long ‘Maitri Bridge’ in a record time of 40 days in Choglamsar village situated in Leh Ladakh district of Jammu and Kashmir. This is the longest suspension bridge over the Indus river, stated news agency ANI. The bridge was made open to the public on Monday.
An 89-year-old war veteran, Naik Phunchok Angdus (Retd), dedicated the Cable Suspension Bridge to the locals on the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. This comes after the civil administration directed the Army to build a bridge to help the locals of Choglamsar, Stok and Chuchot villages (largest villages of Ladakh Region) in their commute. The bridge was inaugurated by senior Ladakhi war veterans in the presence of Lt Gen YK Joshi, AVSM, VrC, SM, General Officer Commanding ‘Fire and Fury Corps’.
The 260-foot longest suspension bridge over the Indus River was built using innovative engineering methods. It was constructed by the Combat Engineers (Sahas aur Yogyata Regiment) of the Fire & Fury Corps ferrying almost 500 tonnes of bridging equipment and construction material. Meanwhile, locals of the area thanked the Army for constructing the bridge, which, they say, has brought much-needed relief to the people of the region
