Karnataka: Social media user flags army aspirants sleeping on road, authorities call it malicious propaganda

The sight of army aspirants sleeping on the road can disturb anyone. But when one social media user in Karnataka’s Udupi flagged this concern, the authorities termed it malicious propaganda.
Aspirants from various parts of Karnataka are currently camping in Udupi to take part in an ongoing army recruitment rally. It is said that the rally begins at 4 AM every day and involves various physical as well as medical tests that the candidates have to go through. The recruitment rally will go on till March 29.
While these candidates have access to a local eatery for food, there seem to be limited facilities for a good night’s rest as most of the candidates are forced to sleep on the public roads.
A local individual, who was disturbed by the sight, raised his concerns on social media. In an online post, the local man said that some of these men will join the Indian Army to keep us safe and were seen sleeping on the footpaths. This was a terrible sight, he said.
The local urged the district administration makes a decision to help them by providing them shelter in halls, government schools, or similar facilities. “Nobody would object to allowing the aspirants stay the nights there,” he said.
However, in a clarification, Udupi Deputy Commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha said that the aspirants were given proper accommodation. Some of them choose to sleep on the road because they have to be at the rally at 4 AM, the Udupi DC said.

“The administration has arranged for their stay at six places. Unlike in other districts, we have provided food to them. Some come here at midnight, sleep wherever it is convenient, and leave for the recruitment rally at 4 AM. The district administration, with the support of donors, has arranged free lunch, breakfast, drinking water, and lodging facility without spending anything from the government,” the DC said in a Facebook post.
He also termed the concerns raised on the issue as “malicious campaigning”
“Some are indulging in malicious campaigning which is wrong,” he said.

see how tuff the indian army is, even their recruits train to sleep on the roads even before selection..
