3 Hizbul Mujahideen Militants Killed in Kashmir Gunfight
Srinagar, Feb 8: Three militants of the pro-Pakistan militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen including a top commander were killed in a fierce gunfight with Indian soldiers in Indian administered Kashmir on Tuesday.
"Acting on an intelligence input, police and army men launched a joint combing operation at Manjote-Nachlana belt in Ramban, some 150 kms south of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir on Tuesday morning," a police officer said.
He also said as the soldiers began to lay siege around the area and start combing operations, they came under heavy fire from the militants hiding in the area. "The fire was returned by the troops, triggering an encounter. The exchange of fire between the two sides continued for some hours during which three Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed," he said.
The police official identified the deceased militants as Abdul Rashid Naik alias Kari Zubair, Nisar Ahmed alias Mansoor and Mustaq Ahmed. "Kari was a top commander of HM and had joined militant ranks in 2001. He was one of the most wanted militants and soldiers were searching for him," he said.
He, however, said soldiers did not suffer any casualties or injuries during the gunfight.
"Three AK rifles and some ammunition and explosives were recovered from the encounter site," the police official added.
