Indian armed forces in alarming shape: NYT

Although this is not over yet...

But myth of invincible indian military is in shambles
Oh its over.
They wont dare to cross the border. That have also seen thousand of pakistani civilians ready to fight. That sends shock waves in the very heart of the enemy.

. .
The americans seem to be telling the indians "you need to buy a lot of American weapons now , right away"

The dynamics will most likely shift swiftly after this brief encounter between two warring nations.
India will most likely be trapped by the USA into buying more American weapons while Pakistan is already relying more and more on Chinese and Soviet tech.
To be honest, Russians has developed some pretty awesome jets since World War II but unfortunately, their clients were mostly inexperienced or incompetent militaries of the world and gave unnecessarily a bad name to their products. For instance, Pilots of Isreali Airforce, PAF, Greece, Turkey etc. could do wonders in Migs and Sukhois.
I am willing to bet that in the future the USA would be more inclined to sell 5th gen jets to Pakistan rather than India. They don't want idiots destroying the hard earned reputation of their sophisticated hardware.

. . .
Salaam

The way I read it is that the Americans and even some of the Indian politicians and power players would use this as an opportunity to spend huge amounts of military upgrades.

The local research projects like Tejas and Arjun will like be shelved as the 'dire needs' of the military will be met through expensive systems.

This increase military spending is likely going to come at the cost of social development programmes. Given the absolutely massive population and almost 65% of the population is under 35. It's unemployment rate is expected to be nearly 14% by next year. In that population size, that means nearly 200 million jobs needed by next year.

The article seems to compare Ibdia and China, but forgets to mention that Chiba first focused (and continues to focus) on its human captial before it began upgrading its military.

India needs to spend a good amount of time and effort to reach its potential.

Cannot say much about India containing China but India is being contained by Kashmir and Pakistan. What I mean is that Indians are having to spend precious resources on trying to hold onto Kashmir and the resultant conflict with Pakistan that they could have been spending on development.

This little skirmish between India and Pakistan is likely going to cost India even more resources and lost time as China and the rest progress further and further ahead.

Kashmir has contained India.

Or maybe Russian systems are not as good as you are thought.

When it comes to air forces, not only the limits that the systems can temporarily reach within emergency conditions , but also we must think all the logistics and the 40-year life cycle together with sustainability.

Spare parts and logistics flow, service life and durability of each subsystem from DoD to modernization planning, all maintenance and renovation activities, Ensuring pilot excellence with training activities, each of which needs to be integrated services with the purchased aircraft , all these should be considered as a whole. And so rough inventory comparisons cannot provide an accurate analysis.

From the same writer. Now we know there were two jets which went down, so which was the other jet? The dog fight took place in Pakistani airspace and as mentioned by another poster in another thread, in no way the pilots or the wreakage would have landed in India due to the strong Westerly winds.

John Bolton is bitch slapping the Indians over this loss. Told the Indians this would be a long time coming. They're the bitch now.

talk about hard Hitting , You need to read this .... !

& this realization

Of course, US knows Pakistan cared two hoots for any exhortations /demands by Washington in the past to clamp down on terrorist groups operating from its soil and there is no likelihood of Pakistan listening today. If anything, today the US’ capacity to leverage Pakistan is at an all-time low.

also worth noting this last section !
One thing is for sure. Increasingly, through thick fog that still surrounds the dramatic happenings last week, it seems that there was something highly contrived about the India-Pakistan tensions. A well-informed correspondent of the Indian Express has quoted “top government sources” admitting that:

  1. The limitations of technical intelligence and lack of ground intelligence at this point make any assessment of terrorists killed in the attack on Balakot last Tuesday “purely speculative”; and,
  2. The IAF was keen on crossing the LoC to bomb the target last Tuesday, but it was decided that it should only fire the PGM “from Indian side of LoC” and, therefore, no IAF aircraft crossed the LoC and as per radar data reviewed by the IAF, the closest Pakistani aircraft was at a distance of about 120 km.
Simply put, while the US tried to milk propaganda mileage out of the crisis, the highly sophisticated American spy satellites in place over the subcontinent would have given the White House an accurate account of what really was happening on the ground — a brawl between two noisy street dogs, as it were, who simply needed to be separated.

The crux of the matter is that the US patently “outsourced” the denouement to this street brawl to its allies Saudi Arabia and the UAE. It could only have been Bolton’s brainwave (at Israeli suggestion) to bring in the sheikhs who are the US’ key allies in his pet project to encircle and destroy Iran.

We don't give credence to NYT reporting; it is for Indian consumption as the US is their long lost friend now.

They'll want all the juicy details of the aerial engagement. Downing a Su30? Hot damn!
