It was not so until a decade ago. Saritha was dark and famous. So many actresses were like that. It was not even required to be slim.

Since dark skin absorbs light, it does not photograph well. That is why for TV shoots make-up is a must.

Only Sarita can be called the classic Dark beauty in South Indian cinema though(and Silk Smitha was more of an Item-girl). The rest are all on the fairer side. at least in earlier times, they'd find fairer South Indians. But now, nothing less than a Punjabi will do.:D

Imagine Silk Smitha for an item girl now :P

The rest of the girls are pretty dark too. It is the flash which makes them look lighter toned.

Dusky beauty se yad aya!! what about that dusky beauty from the movie "From Dusk till Dawn"....though she lived for a short time!!

Bhaisahab, Chitrangada Singh ke bare me aapka kya khayal hai?

:smitten:  :man_in_love:

:(

Our heroes may not all look fair, but have a look at our South Indian heroines....almost everyone is fair-skinned. Why do we need actresses who firstly can't act and secondly can't speak the language in which the film is shot? It's just because they're fair and have a good physique. Discrimination exists even in the South, buddy.

Conservative ?

What about softcore Mallu ****

Oh yeah! Forgot all about our Shakeela. But even she isn't 'dark' enough.

I love how the Male stars are usually South Indian, but the Heroines aren't.

Reveals just how male-centric our film industries are.

PS: I also realise how male-centric Hollywood is... but still, overweight, out of shape and sometimes fugly South Indian heroes make it there, but the Woman has to be North Indian eye candy.

You just stand there looking pretty, but a sacrilege to have a character of your own.
