India weighs the pipeline odds

As I said, take it or leave it...................

Well its Pakistan that has been asing India to go ahead. The whole deal is a non starter bcoz of India's edginess.

You got options go ahead, you are in middle of no where, then you have to take the pill, mayanmar through BD have same implications.............lol.

Well you didnt write what i wrote, its not thru B'desh but bypassing it.

And if India starts working on that today it would not be in operation before a decade or so, thats why wise people say always have good relations with your neighbours.

Well wise people also say its important to have sensible and stable neighbours.

Look at russia, its got so many tiny, unstable republics around it. Even its finding it difficult to control them even withtheir energy clout. India doesnt have that either.

'India not to abandon IPI pipeline'

India was fully on board and committed to take part in the $7 billion Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project, a senior official said.
"We have been assured by the Indian government that it has no plan to abandon the IPI gas pipeline project under American pressure," Pakistan Petroleum and Natural Resources Secretary Ahmad Waqar said
.

"Reports to the contrary...may be attributed to political needs, not real intentions," he was quoted by 'Dawn' as saying.

"There is no confusion in our mind that India has joined the three-nation gas pipeline project," he said, adding that during the recent SAARC summit in New Delhi, Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz was assured by his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh that his country was serious about the project.

Waqar, however, said that Pakistan was pursing both bilateral and tri-lateral approaches to ensure that the project was not abandoned for any reason.

"In the first place, India has assured both Pakistan and Iran that it is very much part of the project, but in case it does not join the project due to any reason, Islamabad and Tehran would complete it," he said.

The growing energy requirements of India and Pakistan had forced both the countries to have a certain feasible gas pipeline project, he said.

Waqar said that Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet had recently approved the gas sharing arrangement with India under the IPI project.

Under the Phase-1 of the project, Iran would deliver about 2.1 billion cubic feet of gas per day at the Pakistani border that would be equally shared by both India and Pakistan.

Under the Phase II, 3.2 BCFD of gas would be transported by Iran, bringing the total gas supplies to 5.3 BCFD from Tehran. Of these supplies, Pakistan and India would get 2.1 BCFD and 3.2 BCFD respectively, Waqar said, adding that documentation relating to the project would be finalised next month.

As of now, Pakistan can only involve any one if India opts out. This is primarily a deal between India and Iran, with Pakistan as a transit route.
Unless India says no, Pakistan cannot take the pipeline elsewhere.

Actually we can.
India didn't sign any thing that Pakistan has to honor it.And that also don't mean Pakistan or any other country will have to put there business a side and wait if Indian government will make up there mind.OK we are in .no we are not.OK OK we are in.wait we are not.

I think despite Indian reservation, Pakistan and Iran would go for the pipe line. India will come on board sooner or later. It is the nuclear deal between India and USA that is the main concern now. India is seeing very clearly that despite USA objection Pakistan is aggressively pursuing it. I think what ever be our finds in Gujrat, we will come over board on IPI line. Second issue is the USA and Iran conflict. India is also weighing these would to be scenario, in over all gas politics. Wait and see.

China can definitly jump in, just bcoz India has a deal with Iran doesnt mean Iran cant have anymore deals. China is aggresively trying to secure its energy needs.
what deal.when was it signed.china is securing future feul supplies.india is trying to negotiate on there own terms.(indian government want the cake and eat it to)they want the supplies just dont want to pay for them.well if china goes ahead and secures most of the supplies from iran.pakistan will still get the tranist fees.

If China walks in. then by all means you will have a IPC pipeline running.
I no chinese if they want it.it will be a done deal in matter of days.

And yeah the problem with the IPI is not only India's commitment but also the presure put by US on Pakistan to back out from the deal

well in pakistans case.American pressure is thing of the past.

Who said we dont want to pay for it. Do you mean to say India is trying to get it free? lol

India's main contention was that it will pay for only what it recieves and the agreement on transit rights have to be discussed between Iran and Pakistan. Iran is the supplier and its their headache about how they are going to supply it to us the buyers. India dont want to sign any agreement with Pakistan under this deal.

.well in pakistans case.American pressure is thing of the past.
