'India way ahead in creating minimum credible nuke deterrence' - Indian Express
India is undertaking a "huge amount of work" toward creating a minimum credible nuclear deterrence and "way ahead" in what it needs to do on this front, a key official said here today.
"There is a huge amount of work that's going on toward creating our minimum credible deterrence," Commander-in-Chief of Strategic Forces Command (SFC) Air Marshal K J Mathews said on the occasion of the golden jubilee celebration of HF-24 (Marut), India's first indigenous combat aircraft which made its maiden flight on June 17, 1961.
"We are way up and ahead on what we need to do (in the creation of minimum credible nuclear deterrence)," he added.
He said SFC is responsible for the country's nuclear arsenal, preparation as well as delivery. The tri-service command directly reports to the Prime Minister.
