India wary of defence deals with Israel | Israel | | Indian Express

NEW DELHI: Israel is India’s second biggest defence partner, but some Israeli companies are under scanner for inappropriate conduct in striking deals. The Ministry of Defence has admitted in Parliament this week that some Israeli companies have committed irregularities, but stopped short of naming them.

The country’s powerful Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has already been blacklisted by the MoD along with several other foreign companies for their alleged involvement in Ordnance Factory Board scam.

The Israeli company, along with others, has been issued fresh show-cause notice following a Delhi High Court judgment in the graft case involving former director of OFB Sudipto Ghosh. The show-cause notice was based on the case lodged by CBI and the MoD is seeking legal advice on taking penal action.

The companies have replied.

Despite blacklisting of the IAI, Israeli companies have managed to bag big contracts as they eye India’s big defence budget. The last major contract was with Libit Systems for supply of unmanned aircraft systems.

An unprecedented level of secrecy is maintained by New Delhi about its contracts with Israel. This leaves a big room for irregularities which are not subjected to scrutiny. The government’s admission that irregularities have taken place has brought to light the way business is being done.

There has been a strong criticism from within the defence community in the country that Israelis were overpricing their products. The Indian domestic defence production industry suffers from big technology handicap and has to rely on foreign vendors.

Israel’s technological edge makes it an easy choice.

But in the name of this edge, they are selling just everything to India, said an official.

It was cited that Israeli companies sourced some material from India and sold it at much higher price. The officials have called for greater scrutiny of the deals and stressed that the ties should be more open.

There is an easy solution..just don't buy everything.

Talk about being ungrateful... Israelis literally saved Indian *** from getting fried in Kargil by retrofitting the mirages, sending drones and ammunition...

As I say, Go Ahead, Negotiate for What Israel and Russia Offers , As there Technology is Well Ahead In Time, Its Not Only a Sign of Showing Gratitude for there Never Ending Support but Also We Are the Ones More Benefited with More Products of theirs which Not Many Countries are Lucky Enough...

You must have very low opinion about Indian armed forces. The fact is that Israel provided satellite imagery, drones and laser guided munitions of course which helped in winning the war quickly. But India would still have won the war but just taken longer to do so even without Israeli help.

Besides, the concern is from the armed forces about acquisition of overprices or unnecessary defense items. India has to use its resources wisely and Israel is major source of defense equipment. But that doesn't mean that Israeli companies can just start overpricing items through backroom deals. This applies not just Israel but any country that wants to have defense ties with India.

Won what war?

Won what war?

Apparently our Indian friends have the belief that they forced Pakistan Army into submission by force during Kargil. They are only aware of Tiger Hill, how Indian soldiers bravely captured this peak but rightfully forgetting how some of the peaks are still occupied by Pakistan Army and many of them were abandoned by Pakistan Army after pressure from the US and Nawaz Shariff. But considering the picture that Indian media painted, coupled up with their superiority complex, i dont blame them. Kargil was no doubt a political failure for Pakistan; but a decisive military failure, no chance.

India couldnt do anything even getting everytrhing from isreal. it was only when pakistani troops moved out that indi was able to capture the mountains...
