SRINAGAR, (SANA): All Parties Hurriyet Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani has deplored that Indian forces are using the molestation of Kashmiri women as a weapon of war to suppress the Kashmiris’ struggle for securing their right to self-determination.

Syed Ali Geelani in a statement in Srinagar strongly denounced the abduction of a woman by some persons wearing the uniform of Indian forces in Zalangam area of Kokernag. He appealed to the world human rights organizations to take cognizance of the incidents of molestation of women in the territory.

He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Laddakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir should be given their right of self determination. He said the movement of Kashmiris is not based on sectarianism and it is also not limited to any specific area.
Geelani also condemned the arrest of the leaders of government employees, adding that the Indian government wanted to resolve every issue through force.

Meanwhile, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference leaders including Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Muhammad Yousuf Naqash visited Zalangam and expressed solidarity with the victim woman. Addressing a big gathering on the occasion, they said that such incidents were bound to occur till Indian troops were present in the occupied territory. They said that the unparalleled sacrifices rendered by the Kashmiri people including women had centre-staged the Kashmir dispute at the global level. Their addresses were punctuated by high-pitched anti-India and pro-liberation slogans.

APHC leader, Zafar Akbar Butt, addressing public meetings in Charar-e-Sharief and Chadoora areas of Badgam said that India would never succeed in suppressing the Kashmiris’ ongoing liberation struggle through killings, arrests, torture and other repressive measures.

The APHC spokesman in a statement in Srinagar denounced the arrest of Hurriyet leaders Hakeem Abdul Rasheed, Abdul Rasheed Untoo, Imtiyaz Ahmad Reshi and Yasin Mohammad Malik, by Indian police. The leaders were taken into custody in Pattan when they were returning from Sheeri area of Baramulla after conducting the mass contact program. They have been lodged at Sheeri Police Station in Baramulla.

Interesting data of rapes by Indian troops
Wednesday October 16, 2013

The Indian-held J&K Home Ministry, the other day informed the state legislature that there were more cases of rapes and molestations of women registered against the security forces and the police than ordinary criminals or allegedly insurgents. The trend is exhibited by the statistics offered for both the Provinces of Kashmir & Jammu.

The state government said it had registered 5,125 cases of rapes – 2,601 in Kashmir and 2,524 in Jammu, between 1989 and 2003. In the same period, 14,953 cases of molestations were registered in these Provinces. While the Indian security forces have 70 rape and 55 cases of molestations. Police has been found involved in 59 rape and 34 molestation cases. Conviction has taken place in only 579 cases.

This is a big question mark for the authorities and the social scientists in India and a food for thought too.
