India-U.K. to deepen anti-terrorism cooperation​

India and the U.K. will seek to deepen bilateral anti-terrorism cooperation as Home Minister P. Chidambaram will meet his British counterpart and top intelligence officials here on Monday.

Mr. Chidambaram, who arrived here last night on a three-day official visit, will have in-depth talks with British Home Secretary Alan Johnson to intensify cooperation on security issues, including efforts to combat terrorism.

The discussions at various levels will focus on the counter-terrorism set up in the U.K. and lessons India could learn for the setting up of the National Intelligence Grid (NIG) aimed at facilitating robust information sharing between security and law enforcement agencies to combat terror threat at home and abroad.

Mr. Chidambaram will also familiarise himself with the functioning of

Britain’s police and intelligence services in an effort to strengthen the security outfits in India.

Mr. Chidambaram will also meet Foreign Secretary David Miliband and British Prime Minister’s Foreign Policy adviser Simon McDonald.

The Home Minister will also have discussions with Director General of the Security Service Jonathan Evans, Director General of the Office for Security and Counter-Terrorism Charles Farr and Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee Alex Allan.

Mr. Chidambaram will leave for Delhi on Wednesday. He is accompanied by the CEO of the NIG project Raghu Raman and officials of the Intelligence Bureau.
