INDIA TO SET UP GAS LINE TO PAKISTAN

. . .
Consider India and Pakistan trade gas through pipeline what about terrorist group in Pakistan will they allow this to happen aor they will blow it.

I'm not intimately aware of Indian Constitution but after the 18th amendment, the constitution of Pakistan grants the autonomy to Provinces to enter into such accords with public or private enterprise(s) of both, domestic as well as foreign origin. Since India is more mature and flourishing democracy, I made an educated guess that such autonomy has/might have devolved to provincial level there as well. Thus, I said "Both Punjabs." Although, Punjab can still go ahead with this deal independently of Islamabad with GAIL. Doesn't matter if its GoI enterprise :).

Anyway, thanks for the clarification.
Yes, there is autonomy. The states have complete autonomy on every subject that is under their domain. We have 3 lists - Union, State and Concurrent.
Subjects in the Union List are the exclusive domain of GoI,
in State List are exclusive domain of state govts ,
in Concurrent List are mixed domain subjects. Both state and GoI can legislate.

Any state of India like Punjab, Rajasthan, xyz can enter into accords with private or public enterprises. They are independent to conduct any agreement that they think benefits their state.

A state govt has the right to form a Company and then it can basically do anything it wants. Like import gas/oil/xyz, anything they want from anyone they want or compete and bag any project that GoI or any company(Indian or foreign) is tendering.

However the state govt of Punjab is currently not involved in the gas supply business. Theoretically they can buy gas from GAIL(a GoI enterprise) or Reliance(private) and sell it to any entity - Indian or Foreign.

Pakistan cannot buy gas at 21$ per unit, other wise it would have taken Qatar's offer at 18-19$ per unit.
Dude if y don't know the face that the Indian refineries r the world's best and can can refine petroleum or gas to Bharat stage 4 level..so this is the only reason pak is buying from India rather than other gulf countries

. . .
Pakistan should've ideally bought Gas from Iran. But for some stupid reason, Pakistan called off the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline after the latter had built it's end of the pipeline network. Indicates a lack of coherent strategy in securing the energy needs of the Nation. The TAPI pipeline remains a pipedream as well.

Sir aaap koi Dollar wagheraa bhejeiiin takiii hum indigenously aur gas produce kar lein ! :azn:
sir I can send you gas. I darink egg parotien shake for dinner every nite!

Pakistan should've ideally bought Gas from Iran. But for some stupid reason,
Sir ji, u r talking about poodles & pimps. How could it ever happen?
our leaders see what benefits them.

Pakistan has not implemented Euro 4 norms. It's still adhering to Euro 2. Hence, this isn't the reason why it's going for Indian Gas supplies.

Pakistan backed out of a very promising project with Iran citing lack of funds to complete a pipeline project. It had to ration CNG refueling in Punjab 3-4 months back. Only recently has the rationing been lifted. If it doesn't secure supplies quickly, such rationing and customer dissatisfaction will be back. Only India could supply gas at such short notice. This remains the only reason.

India’s plans of exporting gas to Pakistan via a pipeline from Jalandhar inPunjabto the Wagah-Attari border will soon become a reality.

In his maiden Budget presented in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, finance minister Arun Jaitley exempted liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from customs duty if it is meant for onward sale to the neighbouring nation.

“Exemption from basic customs duty (of 5%) is being granted on re-gassified LNG for supply to Pakistan,” the Budget said.

This will set the stage for the state-run Gail India Ltd, which plans to build a `500-crore pipeline to export five million units per day of regassified-LNG to Pakistan, to start work on the ground.

“Its an important project that will help improve bilateral diplomatic and economic ties between the two neighbours,”Dharmendra Pradhan, minister of state for petroleum, told HT.

“Broad parameters have been agreed to and a contract will also be signed shortly between the two sides after which it will take one year to build it,” Gail CMD BC Tripathi told HT.

Interestingly, citing security concerns,New Delhihas put on hold a plan to be part of a `10,000-crore pipeline originating in Iran, passing through Pakistan and terminating in India to carry gas from Iran’s South Pars gas fields. Security experts felt that being dependent on gas coming via Pakistan could compromise India’s energy security.

But the Gail pipeline will be built entirely on Indian territory and terminate at the border, thus, making it relatively safer.

Faced with a serious gas shortage, Pakistan wants to import gas from India. Gail will import LNG in ships at ports on the Indian west coast and then pipe the gas to Jalandhar. The proposed 110-km pipeline will then carry the fuel to the Wagah-Attari border, from where Pakistan will supply it to Lahore.

The source added that Gail, which imports LNG at $13-14 per unit, would sell the gas to Pakistan at around $21. The cut in customs duty will bring down the cost.

Not just a pipe dream, India to set up gas line to Pakistan - Hindustan Times

Interesting info.

Whether the deal will be signed is hard to speculate. The deal will face many hurdles.

I still have a doubt that this project will ever materialize, there are similar cases of high optimism of trade relation but didn't materialize. BTW Pakistanis need the gas.
