India To Request Javelin Missile Sale

Lets purchase Javelin and with an understanding of how it works we can replicate it on Nag i.e making it shoulder launch-able.

It would be a good purchase for India to get Javelin. its the most advance personal anti-tank missile. But please do not copy and reengineer as India is too proud to do that. Use the resource for copying procur more Javelin missile or ESPM with Aegis system.

Are you seriously under the thought we will make identical copies of javelin,rename it as say,gavalin, and sell it illegally to nations which are under UN sanctions for HR abuses?:rofl:

Besides,I'm among the Indians who are derisive about reverse engineering.:cool:

No he is just a salesman working to sell US weapons, its just that he started his career recently and does not know PDF is not where India decides what to buy. I have seen him advocating buying US weapons for 6 months now.

This missile is nicknamed "Porsche" because each missile costs the same as a Porsche 911.

I think we need to be very suspicious when the army chooses to buy such expensive toys. It should never be awarded as a single vendor deal without looking at alternatives.

Well, India lack ability to analyze and reverse engineer. So US shouldn't worry about India copy a missile as advanced as Javalin. Ship it.

I think its either PDF or Bharat Rakshak that India not only decide where to buy something, its a place where the India elite formulate its foreign policy.

congrats indian members for this news.... i was just wondering how accurate are these missiles? i mean is there any tracking system that will track tanks and follow them like cruise missiles or just a blind missile? if the target hits, it will destroy otherwise misfire?

Cost of Javeline prevents it from being inducted in large numbers. I doubt if CCS/MOD clears the sale.

No , its not blind .
It has a tracker which keeps the missile trajectory in alignment with target acquired .

The missile itself is fired from LTU(launching tube unit) after the target is locked on before launch , what we commonly refer as LOBL(Lock on before launch )
LOBL is achieved by the Thermal Sight of the CLU carried by the assistant soldier or by IR Imaging of the missile itself .
What we mean by THERMAL SIGHTING is a digital snapshot of the Target emitting infrared/visible electromagnetic radiation is taken with its surrounding and Brackets are placed around our Target .
Snapshot is acquired and passed to missile's seeker , which in turn uses this snapshot as reference to identify the target .
Much the same like CCD of modern Nikon digital camera

Once it is fired missile home on to target by use of its on-board seeker+Tracker and navigation algorithms giving us what we call (FIRE AND FORGET CAPABILITY)

The on-board missile electronic system consists of a
-Detector
-Seeker
-Tracker

The detector elements collect passively the IR waves/photons concentrated by the dome placed mirrors/lenses of appropriate focal length .
Detector elements then pass signal to the seeker which converts this photon pixelated signal into a video frame , this video frame is then sent to Tracker
Every moment(milli/micro seconds) a video frame is generated , it is also compared with first snapshot taken and calculations are made to correct the flight path of Missile in case Target has moved or missile has changed its path .
This correction is acheived by the guidance system which controls the tail/fins (control surfaces of missile ) much like FBW of Fighter-Jets

this was not a single vendor tender , Israel also participated with Spike and a Russian system was also asked for RFI .
Only 2 companies responded - Israeli system had problems in Thermal imaging during hot-desert trials where seeker failed or took more than 45 seconds to cool before operation .

Secondly
Regarding the price , you get what you pay for .
If we are spending money we get performance and sophistication.
Spike missile though slightly cheap lacks behind Javelin
a)It is Towed one where launcher unit is tripod system , while Javelin can be fired from shoulder .
b)Seeker in case of Spike is either IR imaging Scanning array of Arsenic elements / CCD of visible spectrum/ or both
while Javelin consists of Starring array FPA(Focal plane array) with In-Bi/Mercury Cadmium elements

Performance difference in sensitivity and specificity of FPA with old seeker is like btw MSA and AESA radars.
That's why Python5 leads Aim9x and both are generation better than R73 .
c) CLU(command launch unit ) of Spike doesn't have separate thermal sighting for targeting which Javelin system gives .

Only advantage Israel would have given us is long range of 25Kms , with shots on target beyond line of sight or hidden behind a small hill obstructing the view in first place . Wherein Lock is achieved after Launch (LOAL) with use of mid-course guidance by the Data-links btw missile and Launcher unit .
