India to renew hunt for assault rifles after scrapping four-year-old tender of Rs 4,850 crore

1KM!!!!!!! is it effective range or another BS army requirement, is the calibre not mentioned or left out in the article. Now after demanding DRDO to do the impossible task of developing a multicalibre rifle now the army finds out the requirement is absurd even at global standards!!!!!!

This is key feature of indian developments , they can get the design up to 85 to 90% but just can't finish the design with high quality , take any example whether its indigenous tank , indigenous aircraft , heli , rifle etc , it's like they get to a point after which they can't fine tune , ending up always missing something

They alway lack finishing of some kickbacks, commissions & fresh flesh.

you seem mad :pop: but no rape is rare in the U.S

FBI — Table 43

little outdated but decent reference

13,886 rapes blacks committed 4,512 of them. being white does mean you get away with it o_O
93 women are being raped in India every day, NCRB data show - The Times of India

Times of India...............do I need to say more??

are you british you said bloody a couple of times

Of course not dear,I'm a pure blood Bong!! :D But here in India,we are taught British English (like using Lorry for truck, taps for your faucets, saying Aluminium instead of your Aluminum etc etc).

INSAS is bad.
It was.But the newer block, the all black 1B1,is much more refined and does not jam that often!!But the problem is,the older ones has not been replaced every where.

you got your boys and your ally nepal killed.

Sorry to say this but if your troops are poorly trained and a rifle is used as a machine gun (note that those with the Nepalese Army are the full automatic variant and not the three round burst fire ones),they will end up like the poor Nepalese chaps!!It's as simple as that!!Later,it was proved by Indian officials that those guns were in fact perfectly alright, the problem was their lack of training!!They had not not cleaned their rifles properly and poured truck loads of lubricants into them, result - oil sprayed on the face, those things got jammed, and 43 of their soldiers lost their lives. But when Indian officials arrived, they picked a gun from the same 'defective' lot and fired over 800 or so rounds nonstop without a single case of jamming. But of course that report never got the publicity, since it would have exposed the poor training of the Nepalese Army!!Neither do I expect you to know all these really, since many Indians still remain ignorant to that fact!!. And the result - "INSAS is Poop" :(

M-16 was poop when it first come out to. got it's boys killed as well.

It was never quite that poop people often make it out to be.Rather,if we go by Mr Eugene Stoner (or whatever his name was),the problem was two fold,I know that you are privy to these facts but still........
1.The use of cheaper ball powder, which the gun was never designed to be used with (obviously since the direct impingement sends all the gases directly into the bolt career, leading to excellent handling and stability during burst fire).

2.The ridiculous claim by the Army officials, that M 16s were so advanced that they were never needed to be cleaned and oiled!!
Result - a lot of KIAs and WIAs and M 16 getting a bad reputation, which,at most part,it didn't quite deserved.

but now you all want a new rifle completely :sarcastic: like I said should go for a 6.5 Grendel or the simple cheap solution would be AK-12

AK-12_Engineering_technologies_international_forum_-_2012_01.jpg

Personally I would have gone with something chambered for either the Grendel or the Lapua but officials of the Indian Army seems to favor the SPC.And why go for this thing or any other imported guns, when we have got this

The problem is with the pathetic production agencies, with the biggest culprit being the OFB!!Frankly,it is there only because otherwise a lot of lazy men will loose their jobs,it has got no other utilities.,They even managed to **** up the INSAS,which uses the same bolt carrier assembly of the AKM - supposedly idiot proof!!But the developers didn't have any idea about the legendary incompetence of the OFB.

It looks really awesome...............the looks are just killer!!It fires very well too but as the Army found out recently the hard way,it's also a maintenance nightmare!!

So much smoke.

So first you gonna equip the entire infantry with TAR 21 and then replace all of them with MCIWS!!Too wasteful and costly of an idea, bro.

Actually my suggesion is for Initial 65 k+ 117k rifles. I hope by then MCIWS matures enough to equip rest of the infantry. Will work well in the short run. A better idea than contineously floating & scrapping these tenders. :coffee:

I see.Sorry,my bad.But you should have said it in a little bit more clear terms. :)

Bankrupt gunmaker Colt is 'now in a free-fall Chapter 11'

  • Jun. 25, 2015, 12:55 PM
(Reuters) - Bankrupt gun maker Colt Holdings has reached an agreement with its bondholders that will postpone the company's rush into a controversial sale to its current private equity owner while also providing much-needed cash.

Colt will accept a loan of up to $75 million from its bondholders and other lenders to finance its operations while in bankruptcy. The company originally planned to borrow up to $20 million from its current lenders, including Morgan Stanley.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Laurie Silverstein in Wilmington, Delaware, allowed Colt to use some of that $20 million loan last week so the company had the cash to meet payroll.

Silverstein approved the revised loan deal on Wednesday.

Bondholders had argued the original loan set in motion an auction of its operations and that Colt's current owner, private equity firm Sciens Capital Management, would end up winning the auction without bidding anything.

Sciens has proposed buying Colt along with all of its obligations, except for the $250 million in bonds.

As bondholders see it, Sciens has used its control of Colt to drain the company of much-needed cash and created the current need for a sale.

In addition, bondholders fear no one else will bid because Colt has not produced audited financial results since 2013 and may not be able to renew its lease on its main West Hartford, Connecticut facilities.

The owner of that property is affiliated with Sciens, adding to bondholder fears that the private equity firm is angling to remain in control of the gun maker.

Sciens declined to oppose the revised agreement between Colt and its bondholders at a hearing on Wednesday but the private equity firm could still challenge it, said its lawyer, Mark McDermott of Skadden, Arps, Slate and Meagher & Flom.

"We are now in a free-fall Chapter 11," McDermott said, adding he is concerned Colt's case could rattle the U.S. government and allied governments that buy the company's firearms.

The bondholders group includes Phoenix Investment Adviser, Bowery Investment Management, Newport Global Advisors and Fidelity National Financial Inc.
