India to Overtake US in Internet Use
The number of Internet users in India will overtake that in the United States in less than two years. This, according to a survey released Tuesday by the Internet and Mobile Association of India.
The group says India's Internet population was 112 million in September - making it the third largest market in the world after China and the U.S.
The Internet and Mobile Association of India says Internet use is particularly growing among the South Asian country's less affluent population and those who live in rural areas.
The survey says Indians in urban areas mostly access the Internet for email, social networking and education-related content. Those living in rural areas used the web to email, get general information, and access music, videos and images.
