I wonder how the IR will do against stealth assets like the F22? How about their effectiveness against cruise missles? These look like the deadliest short range missiles in world inventory. I think they were procurred specifically for the Babur. Then again im not sure about its minimum ceiling effectiveness.

India buys upgraded Israeli air defences for $1.1bn
TEL AVIV (Reuters) - Israel has signed a $1.1 billion contract to supply an upgraded tactical air defence system to India, with delivery expected by 2017, an Israeli official said on Monday.
The sale of the Barak-8 systems came as India's army chief, General Deepak Kapoor, held high-level talks in Israel, India's biggest defence supplier.
Made by state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd., the Barak-8 is designed for use aboard ships and can shoot down incoming missiles, planes and drones. The most advanced version can be also deployed on land, the Israeli official said.
India has already acquired an earlier generation of the Barak system, the official said.
The Barak-8 contract was signed in April, and delivery of the systems will take place "over the next six to eight years".
The Indian embassy in Tel Aviv had no immediate comment.

In January 2007, after several months of intense negotiations, India and Israel signed a US$330 million deal to co-develop an all new generation of the Barak SAM, which was to be known as the Barak II. It has also been called Barak 8.
The new missile, which will be based on the original Barak, is expected to feature a more advanced seeker, alongside range extensions (up to 70 km) that will move it closer to medium range naval systems like the RIM-162 Evolved Sea Sparrow or even the SM-2 Standard. The joint development offer was first made by Israel during Indian Navy Chief Admiral Arun Prakash's visit to Tel Aviv in 2004. Israel successfully tested its improved Barak II missile on July 30, 2009.The radar system provides 360 degree coverage and the missiles can take down an incoming missile as close as 500 meters away from the ship. Each Barak system (missile container, radar, computers and installation) costs about $24 million.
As far is SYDER is concerned - India has planned the acquisition of 18 systems at a cost of $415 Million (Rs. 1800 crore) for its air force, but the deal is to be reviewed by the Central Vigilance Commission, the government’s anti-corruption agency.[1] The deal was cleared by the Defence Acquisition Council in August, 2009.[2]
