India to acquire 22 attack helicopters

Electronic warfare? Mate longbow radar in Apache give it the ability to track targets at long ranges hiding or without exposing its primary silhoutte thereby on identifying a target it can pop out and take a shot, especially employed in antitank warfare and limited sead warfare.

The rest of your statement I agree. Longbow or Mi 17 it does not make a difference in anti terrorism ops .

Talwar India shal not employ gunships for COIN ops

read the post carefully and then reply.. i have not denied the fact it has the ability to do such things.. but only when the target is detected.. how are u gonna hunt a cave man with longbow?? thats what i am saying.. other then that its the king of battle field!

Didn't pakistan acquire more Cobras (or was in the process of acquiring them) to aid them in the WOT?? So how are you guys going to use them against terrorists?

@indiapakistanfriendships
Its just a thought but naxal camps in jungles can be targetted by gunships can't they? Ground attacks would inevitably result in more friendly casualties.

Mate I think we are in the same page. I just pointed out that Longbow radar is more suited for target acquisition and situatuina awarness then electronic warfare

Yes, the Apache longbow was primarily designed to take tanks. However, it proved very useful in Iraq against terrorists, by avoiding casulties and some US army officers also say that it blew up tanks like video game.

I think you need some language classes. I clearly said that it is multirole chopper. Did you read that word MULTIROLE.
Just shooting one chopper does not mean, that it is absolutely useless.

Please do some googling and findout how apache was useful in Iraq.

And do you doubt Apache's capability against tanks?

Read this:

The AH-64 Apache was designed primarily as a tank killer for a potential ground war in Europe against massive numbers of Soviet and Warsaw Pact tanks charging into Germany. It had Hellfire anti-tank missiles and a powerful cannon. It could hover behind trees and other obstacles before popping up to fire missiles at a target that could be "illuminated" by a laser fired by another aircraft or even troops on the ground. The Apache could also carry unguided rockets. For the next several years, however, the Apache was controversial, primarily because of its complexity and cost, which far exceeded the cost of traditional helicopters due to its complicated systems.

A U.S. Apache was the first allied aircraft to open fire during the 1991 Persian Gulf War, shooting Hellfire missiles at an Iraqi radar site so allied aircraft could fly in through the hole in Iraqi air defenses. The Apache soon proved to be very successful in attacking Iraqi tanks and armored personnel carriers, even though it was fighting in desert terrain for which it had not originally been intended. In the final action of the war, AH-64s were patrolling the Euphrates Valley when they encountered elements of the Iraqi Republican Guard fleeing north. The Apaches destroyed 32 tanks and 100 vehicles over the course of an hour. The helicopter proved itself as the primary foe of the tank, initiating another technological shift in warfare.

So why were you saying that India can't use gunships against terrorists?

all i said was it does not matter what kind of chopper be it longbow or Ah-1 you use in anti-terror roles... the result will be the same..NOW the LONGBOW does not have a super artificial intelligence with suicide bombers detecting ability or anything like that...
by now i am fully convinced that talwar is an idiot!
