I hope Pakistan selects the Scar as it would give Pakistan advantage over any riffle India selects accept the Tar-21 ... Sir @Zarvan any reports about the gun trials ?

This program was produced in for the multi caliber requirement, which IA threw out and is asking for a caliber that was not one of the three that rifle fires... So basically it's in cold storage.

So it's between galil ace and tavor 7. The local design will be between insas 1c and of ofb 7.62*51l.

Would it be used to equip a few special troops? A battalion or a company here and there like the Americans with the Scar?

Or more importantly, why would India throw out this design, when you already invested in it.

I saw it from the beginning as a rifle that never could have seen wide adoption, but partial adoption seems reasonable, especially since you already got a working model. How much worse could it be than your current Insas or any imported rifle. It's a rifle, even a bad one is ok.

Tavor 7, or Ace will arm front line soldiers, the homemade design will be for more reserves.

Dont say, "India", in this context. Most of the programs you see that are dead, or lethargic are due to all parties not being on the same page - user, developer, manufacture, etc. are almost never on the same page, this is just another example. With that being said, recent programs are getting much better.

In this specific context - User provides a requirement a rifle that can handle three rounds, developer prototypes and while it was trialing all over India, the user changes the requirement to a round that they never asked for to begin with, basically killing the program.

An assault rifle is something the private sector, DRDO, and the IA can come up with, it's the fact user has opinions outside homegrown equipment.
