The missiles are for India's Mi-35 attack helicopters.
India has signed a deal with Russia for buying anti-tank missiles for its Mi-35 attack helicopters to prepare itself for emergency situations.
"A deal was recently signed with Russia for the acquisition of Strumatka anti-tank missiles for the fleet of Mi-35/25 attack helicopters of the Air Force," sources in the Air Force said.
The deal has been signed by the Air Force under the emergency provisions in which the equipment has to be bought and ready for deployment in three months.
The IAF has earlier acquired the Spice 2000 and various other bombs and missiles under these provisions.
The deal was signed with Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and the bombs are expected to be supplied in the next three months, the sources said.
The Army is also acquiring the Spike anti-tank guided missiles under the same provisions for being able to take on the aggressive enemy tank regiments.
The deal for the missiles is worth around Rs 200 crore and would give an added capability to the Mi-35 attack choppers to take out enemy tanks and other armoured elements.
The Mi-35s are the existing attack choppers of the Indian Air Force and are set to be replaced with the Apache gunships being acquired from the US and slated to be delivered from next month onwards.
India has been trying to acquire the Russian missiles for a long time but the deal has been signed under the emergency provisions after more than a decade.
