India should avoid ICBM Race

faithfulguy...the term super power is obsolete its is a word to give sense of pride nothing more..you mean to say a super power that is given credit by China to survive the economic depression? if this is the case than i am sorry to inform you there is not a single super power on the earth if since any nation is pron to this economic depression.
Just as there is no agreement over the definition of terrorism majority won't agree on definition of superpower = America move on when nukes falls on a nation calling themselves super power nothing is left just powerless and revenge..

For few indians...Is icbm important or feeding these really deserving people..

pls see ambidex response saying that.."A nation that once vowed that we will eat grass but we will develop nuclear weapons shuldnt lecture others on feeding the poor instead of developing nations"

They r our ppl..we know to take care of them.so pls save us your crocodile tears.

how about feeding your 350-400 million poor first...1/3 of the worlds poorest people are in india

well defense budget as percentage of GDP is WAAAY less than that of yours and we don't believe in spoon feeding...our manufacturing sector is growing at a rate of 15% annually.....that is it doubles within a decade thus doubling lower collar jobs....so we are providing employment......we have world's highest number of universities churning out highest number of skilled workforce every year!

incase you are not TROLLING around....:sniper:

as you can see they are standing in a line where they are being distributed food....so we are feeding the poor...and this photo appears to be of Bihar floods last year which made 2.3 million homeless in country's poorest state as it came on ndtv!

BIHAR 2008 FLOODS

the worst floods ever in 50yrs

There are 5 countries in the world that has ICBMs but only 1 superpower :usflag:

So have an ICBM doesn't make one country a superpower. Even North Korea and Iran can soon make ICBMs, does that make these countries super powers.

Russia is still a superpower even when the USSR no longer exist.

Is this coming from same country's person who said once "We will eat grass but will have atom bomb"...

India should definitely develop the most potent weapons it can and pray that it never has to use them.

We also need to learn to work in secrecy. The existing missile specifications might be subject to speculation.

If India wants to waste money then go ahead and do so.

But one thing I can tell you for sure --> India will NEVER have a chance to use any weapon on non-Indian country.

India will test Agni 5 in 2011 here is the new features of the missile:

The Agni-5 is specially tailored for road-mobility," explains Avinash Chander, Director, ASL. "With the canister having been successfully developed, all India's future land-based strategic missiles will be canisterised as well".

Made of maraging steel, a canister must provide a hermitically sealed atmosphere that preserves the missile for years. During firing, the canister must absorb enormous stresses when a thrust of 300 to 400 tonnes is generated to eject the 50-tonne missile.

"You can reduce the payload and (further) increase the range of Agni-V" Saraswat told the Reuters in Feb 2010.[12]

Another major technological breakthrough that will beef up the Agni-5 is ASL's success in developing and testing MIRVs (multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicles). A MIRV, atop an Agni-5 missile, comprises three to 10 separate nuclear warheads. Each warhead can be assigned to a separate target, separated by hundreds of kilometres; alternatively, two or more warheads can be assigned to one target.

I think india should move ahead with its plans to develop ICBMs.
They will provide flexibility to be deployed anywhere in india. Right now india requires to place its missiles right at the eastern borders to cover entire china which makes it vulnerable to any chinese attack.
But with ICBMs india can deploy its missiles in the southern parts of india and even then cover entire china.
India doesn't want to develop ICBMs to cover the entire world but to get flexibility to deploy missiles at much secure location.

And our pakistani friends need not to get headaches over the thought of indian poors. We are doing a great job for their upliftment. By developing our defences we are providing them a secure environment to develop and flourish.

My opinion: India should develop an ICBM but only after we have our effective second strike capabilities well in place, Which means, we should develop first undergroung missile silos which can withstand n-attack and SSBM's before we go on to develop ICBM's. we can develop it as a tech demonstrator as we already have the tech know how, owing to our active and very successfull PSLV Program. but in near future, we dont need ICBM's.

Poverty can be calculated on the base of No of Mobile Users in India.
India has 650 million of Mobile users in the world 2nd highest after China. Out of every 100 Indian 65 are using Mobile phone.Even a beggar in the street is holding Mobile Phone in India.

I wont say beggars holding mobile phone , but i have definitely seen construction workers , ricksha pullers with mobile phone

If someone give me "yield vs range" chart I would bee able to say someting.

Currently Agni three has 3500+ km of range with 2490 kg warhead. If someone let us know what is the actual warhead size in Indian inventory, perhaps we would be able to see more clearly. ;)

our heaviest warhead weighs 800kg and our 1995 vintage warheads weigh lesser but have greater yield. so even if we use 1 800kg warhead the range will be more than 3900km. With a single lighter warhead you can estimate that the range will be far far more than 4500kms.
for lighter warheads we have special RVs due to increase in max Q value for heat and high re-entry velocity.

You can say Agni 3 is a long range SRBM

But one thing I can tell you for sure --> India will NEVER have a chance to use any weapon on non-Indian country.

...only as long as those non-Indian countries do not use their weapons on Indian soil. :pop:
