India is set to sign a deal with Israel to buy 4,500 Spike anti-tank guided missiles from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the "Hindustan Times" reports.

India is set to sign a deal with Israel to buy 4,500 Spike anti-tank guided missiles from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. for $500 million, the "Hindustan Times" reports. The deal awaits final approval from the Modi government, Israeli and Indian officials told the "Hindustan Times" ahead of Ministry of Defense director general Udi Adam's visit to India next Monday, July 2. to discuss bilateral defense cooperation.

India originally wanted to purchase 8,000 Spike missiles, with 3,000 of the missiles to be manufactured in India. But the deal got called off, according to the "Hindustan Times," because Israel did not agree that so many of the missiles should be made in India.

The deal was reportedly renegotiated in January in government-to-government talks when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited India with a much smaller quantity of missiles to be manufactured in India.

The "Hindustan Times" also reports that while in India Udi Adam will discuss the possibility of India procuring two more Phalcon-Awacs deep penetration radar systems for $1 billion. India already has three of the systems produced by Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd.(IAI) (TASE: www.globes-online.com - on June 27, 2018

There is a media war going over spike deal with nothing official from the ministry or the user. I would love to see the Spikes in service with the armed forces here.

Every month India decides and rejects WTF is this. lol

It is called government bureaucracy.

The problem is, we are making a similar platform and DRDO has committed timelines to the Army.

In the government there is a provision in stakeholder consultation that if an Indian agency can make it, then all foreign deals are cancelled.

DRDO then sits its behind and does nothing.

I think India don't has money to pay for it. Every one knows that India is short on Anti-tank missiles and there is no other competitor India is considering to spike deal so it is funds

The media reports have misrepresented facts. Read the CAG report of last year about government 'not having money'.

In this country, separating media bull**** from reality is a task in itself. As per CAG, which is the official auditor for all government activities, the fund issue is not shortage but lack of syncing the sub-allocations of funds to specific programmes and programme monitoring itself. Last year, the military returned 10% of the allocated budget back to MoF because they didn't find the right place to funnel those funds.

Recent DRDO annual report had the image of homemade portable ATGM pop out test.
Everytime something like that is out, it's customary to print something on Spike. This won't be the last.

Man it is very simple India is short on missiles and India is not buying it. If I go with your statement about DRDO providing the missile the number of missiles needed is high and if you tell DRDO to start production tomorrow the delivery will take at least 5 more years because DRDO will also require the production facility as well.

This is the most corrupt deal being done by Modi even worse than RAFALE.

Israel offers the deal with ToT and India cancels the deals saying it does not want ToT and want to do a direct government to government deal.

DRDO only designs and develops the product but is hardly involved with the actual production. They can ToT to some private Indian defense firm or they could even contract Kalyani group which recently opened a missile manufacturing facility in Hyderabad

It's called corruption. They can't agree the bribes and cuts between the parties involved.
