What's new

India’s vanishing Parsis

What is ED bro?

Oh ok, well depends on the etiology (cause) - can we keep the consultations out of this thread please? :)

As a whole perhaps.. but spread across communities it would vary.
I am guessing a lot less in urban centres.. and more in the rural areas.
As the urbanization of India continues, this will drop further.

True...Its already happening as seen in states like Kerala.

apparently much of india is having a tfr of under 2. but the bimaru states still have 3-4. so pop is still growing.
I think people should be responsible and have exactly 2 kids if they can.
with rising stress and sitting on computer all day the reproductive cycle is going for a toss. add to this pressure of performing at work, politics at work, pollution, commute, TV, internet all of this is creating an environemnt difficult to procreate. thats why city pop is decreasing and countryside increasing.

Don't Zoroastrian have any traditional dress? Do Indian Zoroastrian also wear western clothes in their marriage?

Indian Parsis and Iranian Zoroastrians both have traditional dresses. From what I have seen, the dress for the males does not differ by much if at all. There is a white pant and shirt, over which is worn the Dugli.

In India, Parsi/Iroon ladies wear dresses and western attire, as well as saris and shalwars like other Indian ladies. But for the traditional occasions, we have different types of sarees (lots of chiffons, lace, garas, kod borders, etc), worn the Gujarati style (the pallu goes over the right shoulder). Usually the blouses are sleeveless (because of the sudreh) and the sudreh is lacy and overlaps the exposed midriff.

Most Parsi ladies wear a mathubanu (head scarf) while at work at home and definitely inside the Fire Temples. The guys and pre-pubertal girls wear velvet topis (black, red/burgundy, blue/purple, or white/silver with silver zari).

As also posted earlier in this same thread, for ceremonial occasions (weddings and navjotes), the men also have family heirloom Pagdis and Fentas.

The bridegroom and father are wearing pagdis (the bridegroom wears the one his father wore for his wedding the father borrows someone else's or gets another one made). The other men are wearing topis. All are wearing duglis. The bride is wearing a white lace sari. The other lady is wearing a traditional gara (old chinese embroidery, on silk, highly priced family heirlooms, some over 300 years old).
