I would say that, so far, it has been the other way round.

India is taking advantage of some countries' concerns about China to obtain technology and other concessions for itself.

I wouldnt call it taking advantage, but more like playing catch up...and if we can make ourselves stronger without marring relations with our adversaries, then more props to us....
What I don't want is for india to be formally part of a pivot which switches our focus from our priorities to fighting strategic wars and moves for other countries

It gets complicated.

There's no free lunch and part of the reason the US/Japan are warming up to India is because they expect India to play its part in "containing" China. The US has hinted as much by "encouraging" India to adopt a Look East policy. Now, while no one's suggesting that India's pivot here is dictated by the US, it does raise the question how much of it is calculated to appease the US and to keep it hooked.

The other calculation is Russia, which is not likely to welcome an increasingly assertive US sphere in the Pacific.

and I think to a certain extent we have appeased the US etc as in the case of IPI and reducing oil exports from Iran....compensations on our part executed keeping in mind the larger carrots we had waiting for us (nuke deal)

As long as the cost benefit ratio remains in our favor without concessions on sovereignty...Im fine with that....
Its when a situation such as the 2001 conundrum Pakistan was in before joining the WOT is what would make me nervous and dissapointed...

As far as russia is concerned, allies and friendship apart, business is where they are bad at....and india cannot keep compromising its security because of price hikes and delays....
so if for the sake of our security we need to move closer to the US or EU, so be it...
Politically, we shall always remain allies ie. not allowing our country to be used to aggress against each other

then why away from that 19km ??? like you run away in 62 when Indian troops started arriving from main land india.

Chinese soldiers are brave only till their are 5-10 men in opposition when they 10K force OR their is no one present (empty) , as when main troops arrived, they run aways .

In the long run, its better for India as a democratic country with such ideals to align itself with these nations. China's constant annoying posturing has reacted in changin Indian citizen's perceptions of China. Game over China

I'm not saying that India should not protect themselves, but it should not play the role of policeman in any region.

It can play its role in South Asia, any impact there will affect India.

India will fight with China here, if not work with japan and others countries. This is a net around China and India is willing to be a part of it.

The Chinese seem really pissed!! More so considering the fact that they have only Cambodia, North Korea and Pakistan as 'allies' who can be of little help in the Chinese grand design of force projection in the South China Sea, the Indian Ocean and other conflict zones. They're now out on a limb and they know it.

Cambodia? Wow really. Probably on a govt level but the cambodians I know from the US practice a mixture of Indian Buddhism and Hindusim. I know quite a few with Hanuman tatoos.

Those actions relate to Iran, and Iran is not really an American issue; it is merely American appeasement to their Israeli lobby. Iran and the US don't really have any cause for direct conflict.

The issue is to what extend India would be seen as facilitating US encroachment in Asia, especially the Pacific. Russia doesn't want the US gaining any more presence than it already has in the region.
