India, Russia to study building USD 25 billion pipeline

Given the mistrust between India and Pakistan, majority of these pipelines will remain pipe dreams. The best options is to use transport ships to transport oil and gas from somewhere like Iran. Chahabar can be India's point of connection with CAR and Russia.
No I dont see why It should not see the light of day. After all we have IWT which has survived 3 wars

The point is India doesn't want to be at the end of Pakistani whims. Let us say there is a war tomorrow between India and Pakistan, Pakistan can stop the flow of oil and gas there by seriously effecting India's economy at a time such as war.
India did not stop water. SO why should Pakistan ?

Appreciate the real-politik answer.

But India will be wary of going in for new deals. IWT was signed on 1960. After that the relationship between two countries which are supposed to be the only natural allies on this planet keep souring.

OT: Please don't retort with India and Pakistan are not natural allies. They are the only ones. The day people no longer can take advantage of these two countries, miracles will happen. And no china is not your iron brother, they will never be.

To be honest I think this project is only inked on ice and try to cuddle india , russians just making indians happy lol or fooling them

As long as you pay the transit fee

Welcome :P

Pakistan doesn't want to permit and promote any trade with India. Why do you think the trade between India-Afghanistan was stopped by Pakistan?

India would be willing to pay the transit fee as long as Pakistan is willing to take the responsibility, else IPI & TAPI are non-starters.

To be honest I think this project is only inked on ice and try to cuddle india , russians just making indians happy lol or fooling them

And they just dumped $13 billions dollars in India to fool the Indians.

another wet dream, even a kid can tell this is not a feasible project..

Iranian gas via undersea pipeline can be feasible, you have to avoid Pakistan's EEZ..
you need to avoid Pakistani EEZ for security reasons anyway

Read UNCLOS treaty.

Pakistan could not stop India from building Pipeline through Pakistani EEZ. It could only stop India from building pumping stations.

Another day dream...India should focus on achivebale targets...Gulf countries and Iran are our best economic friends...Why should India waste money in bringing oil from Russia which does not have any direct connection through port with India??

These kind of news should be questioned by some one with some basic knowledge of international geo politics and economics...Why can not we bring oil from Gulf, Iran/Iraq/Indonesia and to some extent from South America rather we will go to russia for oil...

Russian oil/gas is politically most secure for India, bar oil from South American countries. India should always buy some portion of its hydrocarbons from Russia for sake of diversifying basket of crude, even if it cost a tad dearer than Saudi crude.

Though in my opinion, this pipeline idea is stupid, and only thing this study would do is to confirm that. Geography, Climatology, and Economics; all three of them are against such a pipeline. We should stick to tankers.

any example where a country is using EEZ of hostile country for pipelines?

you need to avoid Pakistani EEZ for security reasons anyway

Pakistan's EEZ is safe, we have no single bad incident there.. but its surely unsafe since no one want ugly stinky sub-humans from gangaland near us whether on land or sea.. just like we stopped your bhangi kind from spreading stink on our land, we will stop you on sea as well..

any example where a country is using EEZ of hostile country for pipelines?

There are not even a dozen submarine pipelines, so it is not possible to provide examples. What is possible is to provide links to UNCLOS treaty which is clear about right to lay down pipelines through EEZ. You could only stop India from establishing pumping stations in Pakistani EEZ.

Most Al-Bakistanis are simply too dumb ,due to genetic defects, to understand that EEZ does not mean territory. EEZ only means fishing and mining rights.

Al Bakistanis are far better then AL Randians .. you failed to prove me wrong, show me a single example where a state use hostile country's EEZ for pipelines..

and for rest of your post, @DESERT FIGHTER will be in better position ..

No I dont see why It should not see the light of day. After all we have IWT which has survived 3 wars

IWT was signed in 1960. Relations between the two countries went into free fall post 1965. There is no chance, India will sign any deal which involves Pakistan having even a remote disruption ability to our economy. Even if there is a pipeline from Pakistan, this will be the smallest possible. You have to understand, while, we want trade with Pakistan we do not wish to invest in infrastructure projects with Pakistan, which results in problems in war situations. Trade is like FII. Problem, just stop. With infrastructure projects it is difficult to exit. Another problem, I personally foresee, is you getting into the bad books of the US. If any kind of economic sanctions are levied, then it is a problem. Pakistan is neither Iran nor Russia, that we will continue doing business.

Indian energy plans are being secured without Pakistan in the picture. The aim is to extend TAPI to TAII. Involve Iran in this. Pump gas from Russia also through Iran.

WHile your concerns are genuine, but too unfounded. Pakistan and India are both here to stay with each other forever. Since we are neighbour , we dont have the possibility of choosing each other. We have to live with one another. Now if we go with such agreement like the gas one, we will have an international binding to respect that, and in the event that our relations hits rock bottom we can always use IWT and Gas pipeline as way to restart talks because we would know that these two agreements are between states not between govt and these agreements will continue for as long as we exist.

It will help us in building confidence

Now if we go with such agreement like the gas one, we will have an international binding to respect that

Small problem. Pakistan cannot be expected to treat any legal document it signs with respect. Points being both the UN resolutions on Kashmir, Simla Agreement and the Kargil fiasco. As far as India is concerned, if there were no other option, yes Pakistani route would have been pursued. But, because there are other options albeit more expensive, it is in our own interests and security that we do not depend on Pakistan for anything which is critical for our economy.

While you are right in saying trade should be encouraged, trade which is not detrimental to Indian long term strategic interests is what will get pursued. Anything involving dependence on Pakistan to follow agreements, simply will not work.

Yes, You're right the agreements have not been kept in past. But that does not the case will forever remain so. Once the economy kicks in we will realize that breaking treaties or agreements and getting away with them is not going to help us and our reputation. Honestly speaking I really want PAkistan to reciprocate something that India has done for IWT. This particular agreement gives me renewed hope, regardless of how much hyper nationalistic govt is in India
