India risks US sanctions following $5 billion Russia defense deal

That's what you hope.

But Donald Trump has been going around calling India the "Tariff King". He has seen both the the effect of his words on the Indian Rupee as well as India's meek and basically non-existent response to the previous round of steel and aluminium tariffs.

If Donald Trump chooses to sanction India again for the Russia deal... then what?

India needs to sort out their currency crisis and deficit crisis ASAP.
I actually hope that US Sanctions India. But they did after their nuke test in 1998. And India managed. Things will get tough. But they'll manage.

Trump said before India's going to be his best ally. Not to mention he's actually friendly with Russia as well. USA may sanction India, but I think the possibility is quite low.

. .
What kind of sanctions US can put on india, economic or defence ?

Defence sanctions does make sense as india is second largest customer of USA, currently apache and other deals are in procurement process, further we will get many stuff from usa. So sanctioning india means bye bye to these future deals which india will get from russia either way if refused by USA. They are dying to sign that F-16 deal and shift plant to india, if sanctioned thats a door closed for ever.

Second Sanctioning India means pushing India closer to Russia-China camp. Which US can hardly afford given it has already opened a front with china. So it makes no sense to sanction a country you are going to need the most in future.

Thirdly this S-400 has no concern to USA, but hell lot of concern to china. So to think in a way its good news for USA that india stenghtnens its position vis a vis china.

LOL, and Trump also said that he "loves China" and that Xi Jinping is his close friend.

He also said that he "fell in love" with Kim Jong-Un.

Did China, India or North Korea escape America's steel and aluminium tariffs? No, only Australia and Argentina have exemptions.

What you guys are hoping for now, is that India can get away with this by invoking their "special relationship" with the USA, just like Pakistan used to do.

Well, today's America is a very different place. Donald Trump will sanction another country just to get on the news again. Even "Tariff King" India.

And now is probably the worst time for India considering the currency collapse. Which means that it is also the best time for Trump to make demands.

.
now question is what Pakistan will do? what our ''keeping relations with America alive'' enthusiastic Foreign Office will do now? if Americans do grant exception to india which they most certainly will?

PAkistan should keep relations with US at current level, no need to be bitten again

Spoiler alert: There will be no sanctions. The Us needs Indian support to help advance its interests in Afghanistan and counter China, something only India can do. Not to mention, Mattis, Kelly, and Pompeo all oppose sanctioning India. India is also a multi-trillion dollar economy that has consistently come close to double-digit growth over the last several quarters, so it will not be forced to submit to the US like Pakistan has been for almost two decades. And its funny to see how many Pakistanis are cheering on the US in this matter. Do they really need Trump to solve their problems for them?

. .
No we dont

Size of Economy doesn't matter, US is engaged in Trade War with China who is much bigger economy and trade partner of US. It's geo-strategic game plan of US where it can't afford to sanction India. So, there will not be any sanctions (even if there are some to showoff that will be on entities which doesn't make any difference) but assuming that India will get away without giving something to US is also foolish.

You just proved my point. India's geostrategic position is too important for the US to lose despite its other weaknesses. Trump may not be smart enough to see this, but Pompeo and Mattis are.

Yes, I agree with geostrategic part, but not multi-trillion economy making US refrain from sanctions.

I didn't mean that. what I meant was India's economy makes it easier for it to take any possible sanctions than Pakistan. Obviously the US does not take economy into consideration when making foreign policy.

.
Well let me tell you what we want. A big middle finger to the US and other haters. Yes, you are right we don't care, but I am going to grab some popcorn to enjoy another episode of uncertainty.

Size has nothing to do with this. India is setting a precedent here. A bad precedent that is. It is putting its ally US in a very awkward position. The world who also buys military equipment from Russia will question US duplicity. You think Turkey and others will just sit idle? How can it provide exemption to one nation and sanction others? The US will pay a heavy political cost for such duplicity. I don't think the US can turn a blind eye to this.
Look dude USA is not our ally but partner in many issues and get that in your thick head.

USA is your master you little bum. It is up to your master to retaliate the transgression you have committed.

What is the latest? Any word from the coward Americans?

Very well said. These Indians are over the moon for the moment, but every pact and decision has a political cost.

The Americans aren't dumb. The Yanks have been nurturing their little rapist against China. The Indians are experts at milking and playing all sides. The Yanks have been turning a blind eye for quite some time, but there is always a threshold to patience. The question is when will the Yanks say that enough is enough.

.

US used to say "jump" and Pakistan used to say "How high?". That's a master slave relationship.

Not what we have with the US or Russia or anyone else.

As for the topic, the waiver is already in place unofficially.
