I disaggree here. The reason is US is known for its BS and selfishness all around the world. Once their objectives are achieved they will abandon you. while russia on the other hand is an all time ally. As for the russian loosing out no they will loose nothing but ultimately india would be the final looser once US objectives are completed in the region. You see russia has alot more market open for her china, pakistan, iran. The only reason pakistan is not able to lay her hands on the russian equipment is because of india, once india decides to go to US, russia too will have an open option in the name of pakistan though not as big as that of india but not a bad one either.
True when it comes to American Policy.
So far.. the Indians are playing their cards pretty well by diversifying its sources of arms procurement.
At the same time i feel its a nice move by Indians to Involve Russians as Equal Risk partners by engaging them in Joint Productions.
-The development of the Indo-Russian MTA project (which both their defence forces requires.)
-Programs to develop a fifth-generation fighter (which will have Russian as well as Indian Customized version fighters)
Probably Russian understood the impact of Delivery or leasing of C-130 Hercules MTA. The slow development during that time of an Indo-Russian MTA enabled such deliveries. Russia could have lost the entire Indian market for MTAs to the US and Ukraine should the US manage to sell a large batch of Hercules to India.
