I ask you again, where is the strain in relations? How has India been affected negatively by this supposed strain?
Being friends with Pakistan is not automatically a strain in India-Russia relations.
If Russia was actively trying to hurt India (say by proposing to put it on a terror grey list) then maybe a case could be made.

Your ally, the US for which you brought the Afghan war into your home is out to put you on the terror list.

Like I said, our relation with Russia is not based on Russia's relationship with another country. If that's how we did diplomacy then we will not be having a good relationship with Israel and Arab world vis Iran. There is no issue bigger than that.

Secondly, the Russian sub inspected by brits/Americans was proved to be a fake news made by some French or Swedish arms lobby, I think you missed few headlines.

Russian policy wasn't India centric, their sole aim was to trump the Americans on all fronts and America's greatest ally in the region was Pakistan. Good old days when your scientists were trained in NASA when you were the mediator between Chinese and Americans etc...
But the cold war is long gone. Now, everything boils down to trade, national interest, and money. Now, Russians are barely staying afloat, Chinese have plans of their own and believe me, Russians are not some iron brother of China, they have enough disputes on table. They just don't go neck on neck.
