Smart moves, both to not entrench itself too deeply in either camp, and to have a diversified field of weapon suppliers till as long as India needs to outsource weapons .

Neither the US/west, nor the Russians would want to let go of a sizeable arms market such as this so India plays it to its advantage the best it can without 'upsetting the applecart', as it were, too much.

India's military and geopolitical concerns are rooted firmly in its immediate neighborhood, and that self preservation, not expansionism are its objectives. It also has more than enough matters of concerns within its borders to deal with for now than to involve itself in a situation like Ukraine.

Basically.. utter the odd diplomatic nicety, play nice with everyone.. but mostly keep to our own business and not step into where we do not belong.
