What's new

India pays tribute to Periyar, the founder of the Dravidian movement, on his birthday

caste system is not cultural its part and parcel of Hinduism. Hinduism is not a religion, its an ideology that upholds the institution of socio–economic oppression by the brahmanical caste , in cohort with the upper castes (i.e kshariyas and vaisyas)

Check out Purusha Suktam (rig veda), Manu dharma and Bhagavad Gita (these are works considered as canonical in Vedic Brahmanism aka Hinduism)

Purusha suktam

mukham kimsya kau baahu| kaavuruu padaa-uchyethe|
brahmano'sya-mukham-aaseeth|bahuu-rajanyah kruthah|
uuruutha dasysyad-vaisyah|padbhayo shuudroaajayatha

The Brahman was his mouth, of both his arms was the Rajanya made.
His thighs became the Vaisya, from his feet the Sudra was produced.

Periyar was a crusader against social exploitation by (Tamil) brahmins and Hindi chauvinists

Thanks for the info. But I think it would be best to find a creative way to just criticize caste system without criticizing Hinduism.

Any ideas?

how is that possible ? The basis of Hinduism is caste system scripturaly enshrined and codified e.g in the Bhagavad gita, Krsna states he not only craeted the caste system but commands it should be upheld

The caste system was his (god's) creation and upward mobility is prohibited as sin ..sample this

BG Chapter 4 text 13

catur-varnyam maya srstam
guna-karma-vibhagasah
tasya kartaram api mam
viddhy akartaram avyayam

According to the three modes of material nature and the work ascribed to them, the four divisions of human society were created by Me. And, although I am the creator of this system, you should know that I am yet the non-doer, being unchangeable

BG chapter 18 text 47

sreyan sva-dharmo vigunah
para-dharmat sv-anusthitat
svabhava-niyatam karma
kurvan napnoti kilbisam

It is better to engage in one's own occupation, even though one may perform it imperfectly, than to accept another's occupation and perform it perfectly. Prescribed duties, according to one's nature, are never affected by sinful reactions
