India parents 'reject newborn girl for baby boy'

Its not lack of education, even educated people indulge in abortion of girl childs.

It needs a two prong approach of changing this culture that Girls are burdens in Indian society and harsh punishment on sex determination clinics and those who do abortions illegally.

In any case, Pakistanis should also know that they have skewed sex ratio, and along with China and India, Pakistan is one of the few major countries in the world that have an inverse sex ratio.

Its not only gonna change with law as law comes in action when some unlawful act is reported and acted upon when there are thousands of villages and millions of ignorant people its impossible to get things rectified by simply passing a law..Infact real education is required and people needs to be told girls are equally a blessing as sons as is told in Islam and the point here arises that all such customs infact originates from religion and hindus needs to revisit their beliefs that how can stones they have carved out of their own hands can be their creator when in reality they(hindus) can be called creators of their deities and such confused and baseless religion is infact the basic of so many poor beliefis and practices among hindus which are shameful and ugly beyond worst human standards...

Don't blame religion friend. It has nothing to do with religion. Hindu worship more female deities than male. Religion don't teach them to abandon girl. Its economic reason as well as lack of education.

The problem behind lack of education is corruption..which is present at the top, but it is mostly corrruption at grassroot level which is causing problems....

U are right buddy. Only law can't stop this as there is bad level of corruption exist. The law enforcer is taking bribe and thus this practice is still going on.

What are you talking about its a social issue, even in highly educated family's there is preference for male child and i will say it is prevalent in North India more, in states like kerala male to female ratio is 1000:1050.

In Democractic India, Parents kill you!

What a shame! Culture abolished by Islam 1400 years ago is still wide practiced in India..that is either infanticide of females or putting them into religious whoredom!

So according to you either I am a ***** or dead...... GENIUS....

I heard about this case today incidentally by someone else too... Shocking and unfortunate for all parties involved.

.
I think its an issue which will not go away by legislating. Laws need to be enforced.

A beautiful face of progressive, secular, shining India for all to see :).

One that they don't want the world to see

Indians had a big issue with Top Gear India Special edition. Their 'sensitivities' were hurt. I did not find anything offensive in it. Except that it showed India only slightly differently than the stereotypical narrative about it. It showed real India where man was peeing on the tracks, not the glitzy, shiny one of Bollywood or western media fame.

India parents 'reject newborn girl for baby boy'
BBC News - India parents 'reject newborn girl for baby boy'

A newborn Indian girl has been left unwanted as her presumed parents seek custody of a baby boy handed to them by mistake, officials say.

The two babies were born on the same night in a hospital in the western Indian city of Jodhpur a week ago.

The couple refused to accept the girl after accidentally being given the boy, who belongs to another couple, the hospital says.

Indian society has a long history of discrimination against girls.

The pair, Poonam Kanwar and her husband, Chain Singh, have rejected the findings of a blood test suggesting that the girl is theirs, officials at the Umaid Hospital said.

Instead, they are fighting a couple identified by the hospital as the male baby's parents for custody of the boy.

They have insisted that a DNA test be carried out to establish the truth.

The baby girl is currently being cared for in the hospital nursery while the outcome is decided.

Officials say Ms Kanwar has offered to breastfeed the girl, but will not be allowed to do so unless she gives an undertaking to accept the baby is hers, according to Indian media reports.

Parents in India tend to prefer baby boys to girls for economic reasons.

Despite strong laws, female foeticide and sex determination tests are still fairly widespread, the BBC's Sanjoy Majumder reports from Delhi.

Where are India's millions of missing girls?
BBC News - Where are India's millions of missing girls?

Before injecting venom of baby girl killing bla bla bla, just think from the parent's side.

The mother has given birth, and was told and given a baby boy. They rejoiced. Everybody happy, sweets were given to all.

The after some time, hospital guys telling them it is their mistake and the baby is a girl.

These poor guys thought that somebody is hatching a plan to snatch their baby and demanded foolproof DNA test. Whats wrong with it? They want to make sure that boy or girl, its their baby.

What if had they handed over baby girl first? then same could have been happened.
