India Opens a Defence Wing in its Embassy in Seoul | Korea IT Times


SEOUL, KOREA – Bilateral relations between India and the Republic of Korea have made great strides in recent years. The relationship was elevated to the level of Strategic Partnership in January 2010 during the successful visit to India by Hon'ble President Mr. Lee Myung-bak. This partnership blossomed into a multi-dimensional one with defence and security engagement forming an important component of it. India-Korea partnership enjoys great support in both the countries across the political spectrum.



India-Korea defence cooperation has intensified over the years, and the visit by India's Defence Minister Mr. A.K. Antony to Korea in September 2010 gave further momentum to this growing engagement. This visit led to Government of India's decision to set up a Defence Wing in Seoul. Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, during his visit to the Republic of Korea in March this year, conveyed this decision to President Lee, who welcomed it.



In pursuance, a Defence Wing has now been established as part of the Indian Embassy in Seoul. Col. Ajay Chandpuria, a highly decorated officer of the Indian Army, has assumed charge as the first resident Defence Attache of India accredited to the Republic of Korea.



The Republic of Korea had already opened a Defense Wing in New Delhi.

To further its Defence relations with South Korea, India has opened a Defence wing at its embassy in Seoul and posted a Colonel as its first resident Defence attache there.

The move comes as a reciprocation of South Korea's decision and opening of a Defence wing at its embassy in New Delhi earlier this year.

"In pursuance of decisions taken in March this year, a Defence wing has now been established as part of the Indian Embassy in Seoul. Colonel Ajay Chandpuria, a decorated officer of the Indian Army, has assumed charge as the first resident Defence attache of India accredited to the Republic of Korea," according to diplomacy sources.

well we are giving China an equal opportunity to face the music, if China is increasing it's presence in IOR by growing relations with SL, Pak, Bangladesh, Maldives, Myanmar, Seychelles,etc. we are doing the same in it's backyard by building strategic relationship with Japan, SK, Vietnam (ASEAN as a whole),etc. type of new cold war (a smaller version though) is slowly being fought b/w the two.

Point is, except Pakistan; the other countries you mentioned India too has good relations with. The friendship of these countries is not exclusive to china. On the other hand China has no friendly ties whatsoever with our look east policy countries ( Japan, S Korea, vietnam). India has a upper hand here

Yeah for you it is always the same measure: " if they are a threat then how come so much trade is between them and us" OR "if they're a threat then what are they doing working in our country"?

Let me tell you something, While I know that individual decisions are not allowed in your country, other countries are not that way. Here and even in Korea, individual decisions are respected and are not trampled over by the state. It is a novel concept for you, hard to believe, which I completely understand; but it exists. That is the truth about.
