In theory, yes. But the US does whatever it wants. Also the UNSC reflects the world in 1945. Cold War is over. Let's say if USA wants to do something and Russia or China veto it in the UN. The US will still go ahead and do it and most likely UK and France (the other veto holders) will join it under NATO. Or if Russia wants to invade a small country closeby - who is going to veto it and what you going to do if they disobey the veto?

India is obviously not in that league. But it's irrelevant. If India acquires enough military and economic might over the next few decades - the UNSC won't matter. Sure, it can't veto a war between some African nations - but who cares?

The examples u r giving are irrelevant to what I was saying...I have already mentioned that the great powers(who r also members of UNSC) can do whatever they want...
...as for the tangential argument u mentioned here that even if China/Russia veto something US wants to do...US can still go ahead and do it...that is still part of world powers being able to do whatever they want...
...the only thing different here is that those opposing are also world powers...and it just comes down to the willingness of world powers to fight with each other. This is something they will hardly be willing to do(the cost involved will be huge) for countries like Iraq or Ukraine. So even if Russia vetoes US decision to invade Iraq...and US continues...Russia will hardly be bothered enough to get involved militarily against US. In that similar manner...Russia seized crimea...US was hardly bothered to do anything about it militarily.

Again coming back to topic...UN isn't a tool to control the world powers...they can do whatever they want...it(UN) is an additional way for world powers to control the world. Fighting with boots on the ground is an extreme show of power...UN as a platform enables these world powers to exercise other lesser forms of power(soft power). They brand some country as "violating human rights", or "rogue dictatorship", etc. and put various forms of sanctions...making it harder for said country to do business/trade internationally, import key technologies, attract FDI, etc. With these tactics they can get other countries(non world powers) to stay in line.

India isn't a world power at the scale of US, Russia, China, etc. but India has the ambitions to be a world power...
...and just like how the current world powers arent happy with China's sudden rise and are trying to put a stop to it...they will also not want to share this power with India.

that entirely depends. the UN is just a deal making place for the great powers. yes the US/russia could still do things to a certain extent unilaterally but not anything it wants, and without a UN agreement,it could very well face counter-actions from the other great powers, see syria.

If india could gather enough military and economic power then it could very well be invited to the UNSC as a permanent member, but right now its pip-squeak, with zero influence outside of its immediate neighbors and a economy that is dwarfed by the us/eu/china and a military that only has 10 days of ammo with no power projection capabilities.

BTW, you can't "disobey" a veto, a veto is just a"no" on a resolution. its not a law to prevent you from doing something, its a method to deny you permission/acknowledgement from the only real world wide organization. like if you wanted to punish someone and you present a resolution and it gets vetoed, well that doesn't mean you cant go punish just means you don't have the blessing of the UN to do so.
