India observed the 15th anniversary of the Kargil War on Friday, commemorating the sacrifice by armymen defending the borders during the 1999 conflict with Pakistan.

Army chief Gen Bikram Singh paid tributes to the Kargil martyrs at the war memorial in Drass on the occasion of Vijay Diwas.

He also met with the kin of the brave martyrs of the Kargil War.

A history was written here(Kargil) which no individual could have ever imagined. : Naib Subedar Yogender Singh Yadav

"If death strikes before i prove my blood..i promise (swear)..i will kill death".
.................................................................................................Capt. Manoj Kr Pandey(Param Vir Chakra)
And Capt Vikram Batra, Param Vir Chakra, not satisfied with capturing an enemy post at Point 5140, which was at an altitude of 17,000 feet, said, "Yeh dil maange more."

Along with fellow Captain Anuj Nayyar, Batra led his men to victory with the recapture of Point 4750 and Point 4875. He attained martyrdom when he tried to rescue an injured officer during an enemy counter attack against Point 4875 in the early morning hours of 7 July 1999. His last words were, "Jai Mata Di."

It's no wonder he was nicknamed Sher Shah ('Lion King') for his courage.
