This thing is best not dragged out. India must give the Italian ambassador marching orders, ban Italian companies from government contracts (private can continue) and keep the diplomatic relations on a low keel for the foreseeable future.

India should not give the chance for the Italians to seek the high moral ground here.

Though this along with closing their consulate/consular offices could be a good response but I doubt congress & sonia have the willingness to do so.. To me, it is all a setup because there is no way SC can be so stupid to accept surety from someone who enjoy diplomatic immunity and let go the criminals under trial..

You're right, but it's also true that we did a bit of ding dong thingy in arresting them. I realized it the day they were arrested. For a long time they refused to get off that ship because as long as they were on that ship they were not on our soil. I think we told them we wanted them to sign some documents or something and then, when they got off the ship, promptly put them behind bars . BUT THAT IS IRRELEVANT. HOW DARE THEY GO AGAINST US?! funny the subcontinenties are in a habbit of blaming one person when the GOVT is something that is run by a large number of people who are resultantly there through public vote and who are bound to work under constitution of the country that is passed by both govt and opposition consent.

The Ambassador did not even kill the fishermen. Diplomatic immunity means you cannot get arrested, not even for murder. But you have to leave the country immediately. In this case the Ambassador is not responsible for killings, so why is he being held?
