Pakistan continues to play pivotal role in China's South Asia policy and India "must accept" this "enviable friendship" as Beijing cannot scale down its ties with Islamabad merely because of New Delhi's feelings, an official daily here said today.

The high-profile welcome received by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang with JF-17 fighter jets escorting his plane and President and Prime Minister of Pakistan in attendance at the airport to receive him reflects all-weather ties, state-run Global Times said in its editorial.

"The relationship between India and China has grown broader while the Sino-Pakistan relations have gained depth," said the tabloid daily attached to the ruling Communist Party of China.

"Pakistan's importance to China has never been weakened despite its relatively turbulent political situation and slower economic development compared with China and India in recent years. Pakistan will play a pivotal role in China's South Asian strategy," it said, two days after Li concluded his maiden visit to India, his first foreign tour after assuming office in March.

Observing that "developing friendly cooperation with both India and Pakistan, a pair of neighbours with many disputes, meets the interests of China" and the region, the tabloid said China played a positive role in the continuous easing of the relationship between India and Pakistan.

"China has not played balancing strategy, using one country against the other," it said, denying widely held perception that Beijing secretly helped Islamabad to master nuclear technology.

"These suspicions are groundless but cannot easily be dispelled," it admitted.
"China will not exploit Pakistan as a political card to play. This should be considered part of the mutual understanding between China and India," it said.

"However, India must accept and adapt to the enviable friendship between China and Pakistan, which is not aimed at any third party and has no upper limit. China cannot scale down this relationship merely because of India's feelings," it said.

"The strategic value of the Sino-Pakistani relationship is also of regional significance. It is conducive to the stability of western China and can also assist, rather than harm, the Sino-Indian relationship on the whole," it said.

Friendship between India and China can not go deeper unless China understand India's reservation.
China has to decide ..they want increasing business or some national civilian award....

I hope this relationship gets more stronger really soon by J-10 B and Type 54 Frigates along with some nuclear submarines

China has to decide ..they want increasing business or some national civilian award....

Fancy coming from a national of a country which even honours a looser like Karzai.

@ topic, a global player knows the game much better than a regional micro power. !!

Who says we are not accepting this relation. We granted Pakistan MFN status in 1996. We made our intention clear back then that we want trade. Pakistan is yet to do that. Moreover, India has given all the acces China wants in Indian market and so did China.

Do we need to prove anything else????

Fancy coming from a national of a country which even honours a looser like Karzai.

We work for our interests. Karzai is now our dog and we will keep him happy as much as we can. Pakistan is not required to tell us who is worthy to be honoured.

Before indulging in a chest thumping banter, advise you own country fellow as neither China or Pakistan will entertain an Indians opinion when it comes to bestowing civilian awards. !!

This is where you indians are always wrong....National interests surpass all priorities for every nation and they extend far beyond the realm of economics.

it has been cleared by the newspaper that China give value to both Pakistan and India separately and India should not have ANY concern / reservation.at all

Firstly the relationship betweeen China & Pak is ' enviable' only from the Chinese side. They have another permanently pliable nation at their call besides North Korea.

Seen from the Pak side I feel its Plan A since there is no Plan B.

Next, why should India ' accept' or not "accept & adapt " to a relationship between two nations ? Its their call.

Pak only needs to be wary of the day it loses its relevance to whomsoever it banks on.

Very nice article Windjammer (As always) .

Pakistan is a growing vibrant islamic country with huge expectations , we should not take their relationship otherwise .

Yeah that why global player chose to visit regional micro power on her first visit for 3 days than to regional mega power...

I have one small question if pakistan has such a good friendship with its all weather friend china then why it has to beg for electricity from india and aid from US ? the chinese have judged pakistanies very well , they are one big emotional fools.

sure china will be taking pakistan for a ride
