A dispassionate introspection on you part will tell you that Pakistan did not invade Afghanistan, it was the USSR and than the US, So Pakistan was dragged into this by its supposed ally and friend the US, you can blame whatever you'd like on Pakistan but the truth is out there for everyone to see, even economically, Pakistan was soaring before the big floods, add to it a war with the USSR through the Taliban and other Muslim volunteers and the The US invasion of Afghanistan and you'll see that these are the facts not victimology as you want to call it..
The same or probably worst will happen to India if it follows the US global strategy..I understand that you want to defend the Indian position on these matters, but it does not compare with Pakistan and neither with NK, since both had wars imposed on them and In the Indian case this alliance with the US against China is voluntary..
Here I am done with this discussion..
So, Pakistan was dragged kicking & screaming into supporting the US & the Arab coalition into opposing the erstwhile USSR's invasion of Afghanistan.
All the news of Bhutto's tasking the ISI to foment trouble by cultivating Rabbani & his protege Massood apart from other Islamic groups , (as a response to Daud Khan's attempts to De stabilize the NWFP & Pakistan at large in his pursuit to amalagamte the Pashtun areas of Pakistan ), in their opposition to the PDPA during Daud Khan's regime in Afghanistan were just rumours.
All this was much before the Soviet invasion & can be out down to the usual intrigues two distrustful neighbours indulge in .Yet , all these building blocks were to come in handy once the invasion happened & resistance became inevitable .
Zia ul Haq's usage of the Afghan crisis to legitimise his rule in Pakistan by currying favour with the US & the Arab's support of Afghan opposition groups armed resistance to the invasion is also make belief.
A cursory reading of Korean history on Wikipedia ( not the most reliable of sources but a decent source for beginners ) would indicate that Kim Il Sung crossed the 38 th parallel with Chinese support to re unify Korea under his Communist leadership with active support from China.
While one can dedicate a thread firmly establishing the self seeking role Pakistan ( & its armed forces ) played in the entire Afghan imbroglio , Let me concede that I lack the time to do so.Hence , I've contributed my 2 cents & wish to end the discussion.
I suspect you know it all.But your parting shot summed up your attitude. After all , one can wake up a person who's asleep not someone pretending to sleep.
P S - If the Sino Pak alliance is against India , then the Indo US alliance will target both China & Pakistan . After all , the Sino Pak alliance is more than 4 decades old but the Indo US one is just materialising .I never saw India kick up a storm at the Sino Pak alliance ( but then strategic thinking in independent India was a subject with no students then ) whereas the response of both China & Pakistan to the Indo US alliance can be gauged by the various threads created & bolstered by Chinese & Pakistani posters in this forum.
Finally , I'm sure you'd concede every nation has a fundamental right to its defence & they make choices accordingly.Just as you made yours 4 decades ago & just as we were forced to make ours recently .
