If only they had sided with China during the 1962 war, they could have had a mutual defence treaty with us.

The US-India alliance is against any aggression. 1962 and Kargil would qualify. 1965 and 1971 were self-inflicted wounds for Pakistani Army. Hence no American or Chinese support.
